So Discount Tire gouged my steering wheel...

Took the E63 in for a RR tire repair, had a leak & id have to fill it every morning. I watched the guy pull it in & he took the longest route possible in their parking lot to pull the car it(parking lot joy ride?, w/e not a big deal to me). All is well…tires fixable, I pulled it out(thats what she said) & I'm back on the road.

1st turn I take I feel something graze my hand, I look at my wheel & whatttt the fkkkkkk!!! Theres literally a piece of leather hanging on the perforated part of my steering wheel. Looked like maybe the guy had another set of keys in his hand while parking lot pimping my car? or something?

Turned around, showed the manager & they said they would fix it but he's never run into a gouged steering wheel issue & wasn't sure what to do? Neither am I at this point…get it recovered? New wheel? I definitely don't want it touched up(looks like ***** IMO)

Options anyone? Pics to follow…

Definitely not the 1st time they've eff'd stuff up. Scratched numerous wheels on a previous cars in the past.

Insurance should be covering it for them, get the amount for a replacement wheel from MB, buy a wheel from Berti_00 on here, then pocket some for your troubles

There is a company in Dallas that specializes in recovering and building some really nice steering wheels to your spec for a pretty good price. Dallas custom steering wheel. Might as well upgrade if they are paying for in anyways!

I'm so glad I mount my own tires.

You aren't going to be able to re-wrap just that one section for sure, it won't match the rest of the wheel. I'd tell them you want a new one!

If you think that was bad, NTB while mounting a set of R1's on my M roadster, ripped the shifter know off. Cost them $275 at BMW to repair it, and of course a free mount and balance. Its amzing the level of worker that these shops use. Good Luck OP, they will pay as long as you make a stink.

This is why I always insist on pulling the car in myself or take the rims off at home and down to the shop.

This place is a joke.
Any good vinyl repair guy can make that invisible. Usually the local dealership has one around the area.

Stopped by 3 places & said no go on vinyl repair due to it being in the punched leather. I wouldn't settle for a cover up job either way.

Quoted the place in Dallas & one place said they can rewrap it just like OEM. Both were $500+ & they need the car for 3 days(dallas is 4-5+shipping). Currently only have the AMG & 62 t-bird(thats not daily drivable for my long commutes). So 1 week w/o the E is pretty killer. Dealer quoted $2800 w/o install!

the saga continues….

Went back yesterday with estimates, pretty much all shops said it is NOT repairable. Took them some quotes on new wheels & they've opened a claim. I should hear from one of their corporate people today or tomorrow. Lets see what happens.

Did you reach out to DCT? They can replace all the leather on the steering wheel, and if you don'y have a flat bottom, I'd have them do it while it's there.
Good luck -
It's a PITA

I did pretty much the same thing to my steering wheel. I was getting into the car and the rivet on the top of my front jean pocket ripped it. I used it as an excuse to buy the DCTM wheel. If you can get one for free the install is a pretty straightforward diy.

DCTM is one of the quotes I gave them.

Dealer - $3508
DTCM - $1300

So well see how it plays out.

The install is pretty easy - (just disconnect the battery first)
