Rob,
It is a "lame" reason I know, but it came from the MB Sales Managers mouth. Will take the car back to the dealer when it is in.
Took delivery last friday and have only 100 miles on my baby. Need to pick up the pace to reach that 1000 mile mark. The car is AWESOME!!!!

That's great news! (I hope it's accurate) Any word yet on the cost? Rob Hephner??? you out there?
Plus I see XM has gone commercial free...I wonder if an XM unit work instead of Sirrus? If the hardware is a seperate unit why didn't MB give us the choice?

Not sure on cost.
Each Auto manufacturer can really go one way or the other, Mercedes went with Sirius.

Moa4r...Does your '03 have the audio in jack in the glovebox? That's where I run my cassette player & MP3 player through.
I'm thinking of installing a cassette player permanantly in there (now how whacked is that!) But I still listen to alot of audio books on cassette, and the '04s lost the cassette players.

I know I can use the fm modulator/cassette solution, but its bad sound quality and i'd much prefer using the stock headunit for controls, etc... oh well

The next time you get to fill out a consumer service survey mark that you are unlikely to buy another Mercedes because they have no good way to add aftermarket electronics to thier vehicles.
Once we get a lot of people doing this we will have more options for better sound and electronics.

Dropped off my wifes Audi today for service and spoke to the MB service manager. The latest news from MB is that SAT radio is delayed again. Maybe April???

Someone from Sirius Backstage who has Sirius installed in their CLK.

The antenna installs on the underside of the trunk lid, between the trunk lid and the liner. That is why I didn't post a picture of the antenna, there is none to see. It makes for a very clean installation. I think this is only the case on a few mercedes models (mine is a 2004 CLK cab W209).
I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the antenna was hidden, becuase I too was apprehensive about an unattractive antenna installed on the trunk lid of the car.

If you look in the audio forums they have a postingthat seems to indicate that the antenna will be IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUNK LID! UGLY UGLY UGLY!!!!!! Apparently the composte lids on the CLK cab and CL can have hidden antennas.
Would have to pass on that install. One of the guys has posted the installation instructions from MB.

I don't understand how they can have the antenna under the trunk lid. The antenna I have for my ML430 is up on the roof and you can not block the signal in anyway. It always must have a direct shot up at the sky. Sometimes when I drive on roads with dense tree cover my signal gets messed up and the sat radio cuts out. How can the antenna get a good signal from inside the trunk? I don't think it will work. Has to be on the roof. Just my experience and opinion based on my experience. Of course unless they have invented a new antenna that is super powerful.

I talked to a local installer of Sirius who told me he wouldn't touch the MB system since it was fiberoptic. And this was a very high end store.
I think I'll wait until someone comes up with a more cosmetic soultion. No way I'm drilling a hole in the trunk.
Remember when the W210 first came out - the cell phone antenna was a power antenna and then the next year it was hidden in the bumper. Maybe MB will solve the problem.

The only thing you can maybe expect is the trunks all becoming composite so the antenna can be behind under it. You will have to have an antenna somewhere in the rear portion (not including the bumper for good signal strength).

I don't buy it. I'm not calling you guys liars here, but I don't see any way possible the antenna could be covered. How will it work? The signal is that strong it will go through this composite material? Any little thing that blocks my antenna really messes up the system! I just don't believe it!

The signal will pass through non-metallic objects. Go to the Sirius or XM web sites if you don't believe me. There are lots of installations with the antenna on the dash etc. It may not be idael but provides decent reception.
