What are the common mods for the e63?

i've searched but most of the threads i've found on this subject are for the 55ks.

I'll be getting a custom dyno tune, front lip, diffuser, and blacking out all the chrome parts on the car this week. The car already has wheels and is lowered via STAR.

Any pointers on intake, headers, exhaust, lighting options?

I chose the E63 over the E55 to not do (engine) mods. That said though, I'm surprised how docile the E63 is in regular day-to-day driving. You really need to open the throttle to enjoy the soundtrack, so I see the draw in getting headers and such.

The only mod I've done (so far) are replacing the cheezy plastic door pins. I'm surprised these things are stock in an AMG! The new ones are matte aluminum with a small AMG logo on the top and sit flush to the door when locked. I'm now looking for a set of interior led lights.

I would look at a different brand. They make promises and don't come through.

what other brands are there? Kleeman & renntech seem to be the choice for many people but mostly with the 55k crowd.

What about intakes? Do most people just do drop in filters?

First think i did Was getting longtubes, x-pipe and 100 cell cats. The sound is a wet Dream after that. Get a ECU tune at the same time. These mods wont be that expensive.

What kind of longtubes did you go with and how much did they cost you?

just did a resonator delete and the car sounds...like a v8 should? haha I think i'm going to have to do an x-pipe to get the sound i want. Anybody here run an x pipe along with a resonator delete?

The American Headers in my car are outstanding. And, after a trip to Jet Hot, they look great. For my E63, the mod route I followed was 1) EC stage 3 (headers, Carbonio intake and EC SW). Then, Weistec Stage 3. Next some more Weistec goodies.

i found a DIY for the "ROW" air box mod here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...r-box-mod.html

I'll be doing that once I can summon up the courage to lol

I'm going to be doing an x pipe with the secondary cats deleted... do you know if this will throw a code?

As for the colder spark plugs.. what benefit does that provide? thanks!

I've got Kleemann LTH, deleted primaries and secondaries and replaced with 200 cell sport cats.

Also have Kleemann tune--and Fabspeed welded up a nice mid-section from the headers to the resonators. I kept the resonator and everything back from there.

Love the long tubes, only problem with Kleemann is that there's no way to bolt them on. I'm not aware of a midsection that you can purchase to make install easier. Since I wanted to keep some cats (and didn't want the OEM) we had to do a custom midsection.

Here's a link to a video clip.

CarbonHan... I remember your name from M5board. I'm new here myself. My E39 was just totaled and I'll be picking up a E63 AMG next week.

Found a nice example on auto trader and inspected it myself. Anyway, just stopping through. Saw your name and wanted to wave hi.

I think there are a few of us from the M5 board, or on both boards. The E63 is a wonderful daily driver, and headers really sound great on this car. It is not an E60 M5 sound, but definitely very nice.

That's cool. Natural progression it seems.

The E63 and E60 M5 wouldn't sound similar. The E60 is a V10.

Hey! I recognize your name too from m5board. The e63s power delivery is pretty similar to the s62.. Just a lot more of it lol. Good luck on your search for the e63.. It took me awhile to find the right one but it was definitely worth the wait.

I don't like the way LTH sound on M156 engines. They sound nice don't get me wrong but they make the car become like a race car. Way too loud and way too raspy IMO. The 6.2 NA E63 sounds amazing with it's stock exhaust, so beefy and sounds good with an X pipe and/or muffler too.
