A little squeak

Since many of us share the 55K, I thought I would post here even though I have an SL.

I started my car this morning only to hear this:

I have had a nagging little squeak that went away once the engine reached normal temps.

Sure do appreciate any insight.

I was thinking I should pull the SC belt and start up again. Isn't the idler pulley on the SC serpentine or is there one on both?

You guys nailed it as usual

I went out this morning to have a look and noticed a piece of the SC belt in the engine bay. I pulled the SC belt. The pulley to the left (facing engine) and below of the tensioner had significant play in it. I pulled the belt and started the car. No squeal, just that normal M113 symphony of sounds that I have come to love. Kinda reminds me of my dads old 300D .

Now is a good time for a pulley kit. Any opinions on the belt wrap? If my wife would have taken the car yesterday morning, I just about guarantee she would have started it, not noticed the noise or turned up the radio. Who knows how many expensive components could have been taken out when the belt blew on the freeway which I am quite sure would have happened.
