Alusil, explained
I found a great article published back in 2008 my Tim Meara. Tim is/was a senior honing technician for Sunnen Technologies (the company that builds the best engine work machinery in the world, IMO) and had a spot light posting in Modern Machine Shop. Most will have a hard time following if you're not active in engine building, but it's still worth the read.

Interesting. I knew that it was no easy task machining the cylinders on these engines but wow. I can see small time machine shops doing some serious damage to these blocks if there not well educated. I also found it interesting that you can press in a new alusil liner instead of steel.
