quick oil/ filter change question.

i have my car on the lift and am about 4000 miles into my 0w40 oil. when i did the oil change i only drained oil pan and forgot about the drain by sway bar. my car is a quart low as well and was thinking about draining the oil while i got the car on the lift vs adding a quart.

i have new oil drain bolts and washers on me but the problem is i dont have another filter on hand and not sure when i will have a chance to get back on the lift and would like to change it today while its up.

think i will be ok to reuse the oil filter with 4000 miles? or should i replace it due to old oil and add a quart, maybe its a at add 1.5 quarts by now.

How long do you normally go between oil changes?

The filter is rated to 10-13k mi depending on the application so I don't see why there would be a issue. That front pan section only holds about 1/2 quart if I remember correctly.

This place is a joke.
If it's an OEM filter 4k miles is no problem.

+1 fleece filter will be ok, but you should open the filter cap to drain as much oil out of the filter as you can. When you lift the filter/cap the oil drains in to the crankcase. Doing this will minimize dilution/contaminationon of the new oil. Plus there is nothing stopping you from changing the filter at a later time, and always use the Fleece (white) filter not the paper (brown)filter.

Why not just replace it? It's not expensive and it's easy to get to. In fact, could probably extend drain intervals, by replacing filter in lieu of the oil.

the last oil change was my first oil change on the car since ive owned it. im shooting for 5k intervals due to summer. so i dont think i will put more than 10k on the filter. its oem fleece filter.

i guess i can just change the filter once it comes in. I was just on a time crunch yesterday and had a lift in a cool garage but no filter.

thanks for the replies

5k is too short, I was running 7.5-8k miles between oil changes. I sent the oil off for analysis by Blackstone and still had plenty of wear additive in the oil at these intervals.
I did this consistently over 60k miles (between 55k and 115k) up until I sold the car.
