E55 value for a new guy
Chris
It seems you may have located one already? I agree with Joncl, their are a lot of variables.
Does the car have a maintenance history?
I would think a low mileage 05', E55 can go anywhere from $20k - $25K

You say you don't want to get taken but in my opinion, anyone paying any kind of premium for a 24,000 miles 9 year old car is getting taken. It's not a collectible, it will not appreciate in value and newer AMG's as well as other comparable cars continue to fall in value. It's a 9 year old car that NO ONE has taken the time to drive and figure out its specific mechanical sturdiness or quirks as the case may be.
If you have any kind of life emergency that requires you to dump the car suddenly, the market, or bank, or dealership will not look upon you with sympathy or understanding, they will look up the values via KBB, Nada Guides, Clearbook.truecar to name just a few and offer you less than trade in value. Period. So my advice would be to find all the values any dealership or financial institution will use to value the car, average them out and stay well within those parameters.

After getting upside down on a few cars when I was younger and then having to sell them because of unforeseen circumstances I've learned that no matter how rare the car, it's never worth it to go the wrong way with the price of a car compared to KBB/NADA.

I found most dealers and people were asking above the purchasing guides prices (nada, bb, KBB etc)
