People don't know it from Adam.

Ted, I'd like to weigh in on this one. This was a joint venture for my wife and me, so I know she feels the same way. We bought this car for a variety of reasons, most purely personal as it should be, but a small piece of it is owning something hot that attracts attention. I know that opens me up to criticism, but I'm being honest. It's why we didn't wait for the M5. Driving a fast, unattractive car wouldn't have cut it for us. Now, I can't speak for the populace at large, but plenty of people where I work, and also where my wife works know all about this car, all about AMG. I have owned a few nice cars recently. 325IS, 911 Turbo, C32. My wife asked me if I ever thought I'd find the perfect car. I told her yesterday this is it as far as my quest is concerned. I know this cars faults, but I personally love everything about it. My only problem with it so far is trying to decide whether I want to listen to the stereo cranked up or the exhaust.

I don't care much what people do with their money. If they want to ridicule themselves it's their right.

But seriously, Benz, what you did was so freaking lame. What you are is a con. You care so damn much about what people think of your car you're willing to LIE about it, to defraud others. If I were a potential business partner and saw what you were up to, you can bet I'd run far away from your lying a$$.

But it's cool, I'm sure you gave quite a few people a good chuckle. Maybe a few eye rolls too.

Keep up the good work. Next time buy a Civic and rebadge it as an Accord why dontcha...

If it makes them happy, let 'em do it. It's sad, but hey, what can we do?

And to think that I was concerned about the accuracy of putting a personalized plate on my E55 that said...493 hp.....instead of 469 hp. I just have a concern about accuracy, but thats just me.

You should put 469PLUS and then you'd be covered. LOL

Well, I came aboard this thread a little late...I just read the whole thing through. I must say, it's a very interesting discussion.
While it is still somewhat continuing...
Suppose someone bought a brand new E500 with the 'amg package' (assuming that is still available) and installed every amg part inaginable including exhaust, calipers and badges. Not to mention that you probably could not tell the difference other than performance and very minor ques here and there - would you still feel the same way?

BTW - I am not refering to ANYONE nor am I planning to do this. I am just curious (and at the moment bored).

Whatever cranks your tractor. If thats what you want to do, go for it. As for me, not intrested in impressin anyone cept myself. I want to know I got the real thing, especially when I pull along side a wanabe I have Vette that will smoke any stock Z06, but it isn't badged as a Z06 cause it ain't, but it does act the part. It is not a wanabe.

No, doesn't bother me as long as you don't mind a M5 on a E500

AMG
THE MOTHER of all badge jobs....

Last night, I saw a 300E W124 sedan (1986-1989 - didn't have the silver body cladding the 1990+ got).

The rear of the car was badged:

E420 /////AMG

Had a cheap looking trunk wing, PLUS....the best part:

He had stuck V8 kompressor badges on the front quarters.

What about "down badging". Consider taking off your E55 AMG tags and replacing them with E 320 tags.

How old is this thread?
Anyways, I asked the Mercedes salesman and he said the E55 AMG has 476HP...

Thanks for the fame!

If you still have the old E240 badges I would like them for my real E55.
