Did the shop call the local Fire Dept?
Actually, now that I read your description of what happened again, since it was in the possession of a shop representative at the time, they seem to be on the hook for the fire. If I were you, I wouldn't even deal with that shops insurance company, I would just call my car insurance company & let them deal with it.

E55 AMG Catches Fire at a BMW Shop
Poor, unfortunate pugads650. He took his E55 to a garage for "a new supercharger bearing belt and miss fire [sic] issue." It was misfiring, all right - starting in the passenger-side footwell.
The blaze, which "happened while the shop was test driving" the German juggernaut, continued up through the dashboard and into the engine bay. According to our hapless forum member, "The car is dead."
However, hope is very much alive in other followers of the MBWorld boards. They've already started requesting pieces from pugads650's tear-down of his once-super sedan.
Read the rest on the MBWorld homepage.

Behind passenger foot well are the main power cables. They are very well protected from factory. Also the tcu is there along with a few other modules.
