new 010 IC pump help

I need some help. New to the e55 world. I have an 05 e55 completely stock. After lots of reading I chose to upgrade the IC pump to a bosch 010 as a precautionary measure. In the process of changing the pump, the clamp fell off and I lost some of the coolant. After reassembly, I started car, let it reach temps took it for a drive, returned home followed bleeding procedure. The coolant reservoir is still full and I did not see a lot of air bubbles.

What am I overlooking, I know I lost a lot of coolant, but the reservoir is still full. Car seems to run fine but know I need to replace the coolant.

I did not power up the new pump after install, I assume it would automatically come on when the car was running at temp.

what am I missing?

Did you beat on it enough to get the temps high enough to turn pump on? Do you have a split system witha remote reservoir?
Have you considered wiring it to be on when key is switched to position 2?

The car is completely stock except for the pump. I did a couple spirited runs, but would not say I was flogging the car.

may have a good excuse to go for a longer run

Maybe you didn't lose as much coolant as you thought? But just to be sure, go beat the hell out of it for a bit.

I took the rubber cap off the metal tube on the pass side that runs to the IC, ran a clear line from it to the reservoir and ran the car for 15 min.

I also took the car out for longer harder run and car still seem to run fine. The HE is about outside temp to the touch. from what I could tell I would say the contents of the HE leaked when i was changing the pump.

thanks

Did you notice any difference since you replaced the pump?

I have not noticed any difference in performance. seat of the pants car runs the same cool or hot..

my big concern at this point is the loss of the coolant and why the reservoir level is not dropping.

I believe there is another step involved in this bleeding procedure. I remember having to clamp one of the hoses coming up along the front of the engine block between the engine and the idler pullies.

Found it:
to refill you just add some to the reservoir. take that cap off and run a clear hose to the reservoir, poer up the pump and watch it flow. you shouldnt lose much coolant in this process, just a bit that will come out when you take the cap off. you can also put a vice grip right below that bleed nipple to circulate all of the coolant in the system out into the reservoir......that is what mercedes dealer system advises.

And:
if you are looking under your hood...
passenger side, in front of the supercharger. there are two hard metal lines right next to each other, one has a rubber cap on it with a clamp. that is the bleed nipple, uncap it and put a clear hose on it, route the hose to the expansion tank. use a vice grip to block off the rubber hose right after the bleed nipple, power up the pump and you will see coolant flowing to the expansion tank.

I don't know if this is required or not but some guys found it useful when bleeding the system.

Can anyone confirm?

Regards

Everything you ever wanted to know about bleeding an intercooler system on an E55/SRT6 but were afraid to ask.
