Fuel Filter

Seems to be much conflicting information between this forum and what my dealer is telling me.

Fuel filter replacement ranges from $216-$270 depending upon whether it is a two clamp or four clamp style.

No need to replace pump.

Anyone challenging this needs to provide facts, please.

I thought it was determined that the filter was not replaceable?

https://mbworld.org/forums/5821238-post29.html
I could not seperate the fuel filter without possible damaging the sender unit fellas. So it was not a simple cutout or remove fuel filter operation like I was hoping. My plan was to remove the factory filter and use a 10 micron steel mesh E85 filter inline so servicing it would not be a problem. It does not look like that is possible without getting a new sender unit.

This place is a joke.
Run, don't walk, away from your "dealer." Or better yet get them to commit to that quote and let them eat the difference. Most dealers are running off the experienced help for cheaper labor so the execs can make even more money. The person who told you that was probably waiting tables last week.

And the filter is not part of the pump.

Here is a good look at your fuel filter :

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...el-sender.html

Edit:

And as far as I know, no one has been able to find a replacement for that filter. Which is the reason why we are forced into purchasing the entire sender.

It is certainly replaceable. As long as you don't bust any of the plastic tabs opening it up.

I believe that GunMoto was providing the sizes in the hopes that we could find the right size replacement somehow but so far no one has been able to find it.

So in that case, maybe the dealer has the hook up on replacing the filter hence the much lower price than you would expect?

I would demand pictures and proof with part numbers. That seems insanely cheap and it's fairly easy to say "Yep, I replaced the filters which are now securely fastened inside the sender so if your car goes lean and blows up, we'd be off the hook because the only way you'd know if we didn't replace them is to break the sender unit, in which case YOU could have placed old or dirty filters in there. the second you open the sender, you lose your proof". I'm not saying that's how crooked these people are, but it really is one of those maintenance items that you really have no recourse with if something goes wrong.

"Two clamp or four clamp"?? What are they talking about?
If you get the proper part for $270, I'll take two.

Dealer admitted first person gave me bad info.

It is as expensive as has been discussed here and they actually don't recommend doing it. And I'm not.

Thanks

They recommended that you not replace the fuel filter/pump assy, even though MB does?!!?!

It seems to be ill-founded logic to trust the advice of someone who can not even give you a proper part #.
To be specific, there's two separate, yet related parts: one side is fuel-filter assembly, the other is the fuel-filter assembly. If you don't replace it AT LEAST what the service interval states (should be more often), you'll be flirting with disaster. (research the MANY stories here).

It's a cheapo filter, if there was a cleaner for our fuel system that actually did anything then maybe but until then...

I wonder why he even asked here if he's going to follow stealership plan!
