Hey guys, haven't really been on here at all lately. Today marks a very special day, the two year anniversary of a great purchase, my 2007 W211 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG. This is a two year review of what has gone down with ownership of this car since I will be more than likely selling it soon for something British and associated with the numbers 007.

Now you're probably going through the threads in the W211 AMG section and just seeing thread after thread of "my E63 makes strange noises" or something along the lines of "my E63 engine just blew up" or the airmatic failing. Over the years, I realized why this is mainly what you see. Most guys on here with E63's don't really do much to them as far as modifications and if they do, it's very light. Most of the E55 threads you see are performance questions, or what kind of power people are putting down, along with the occasional issues that get drowned out by the performance threads. Now of course there are common issues with the early M156 engines found in the E63 like lifter noise etc. but doing extensive research on the E63 you find and driving it around/listening for noises should mitigate the chances of being stuck with an abused car extensively. Pay a few more dollars and opt for the E63 that comes with a warranty, or purchase an extended warranty if you don't plan on doing heavy modifications (mine did not come with warranty nor did I purchase extended). I have driven the car as it was meant to be driven, never abused or raced for long periods of time, and have done the occasional car rallies with other exotics struggling to keep up with my car on the freeway.

My first AMG was a 2006 C55 AMG. i purchased it with 47k miles and it was a CPO vehicle so i got the 1 year warranty. I did some light mods to the car and got 400HP out of it while daily driving it, and never once had any issues with it. I wanted more power, a lot more power. So I opted for something in the $35k range that was also NA and came up with the E63. I sold my C55 (he is now a member on here) and that same day, i found a local E63 at a lease return dealership and did my research on the car, found out it was a clean title with no stories, checked out the car in person, noticed a scratched up front bumper, but drove it around and listened for anything abnormal and all was well. i made the offer on the car and it was mine.

The mods began. first thing's first, i had the front bumper repainted and license plate holes filled in, along with new smoked side markers. I had the grille painted black, then I had the resonators deleted (best $45 spent) and the TTM scoops went in and i had the ECU flashed by Eurocharged. Then the carbon fiber front and rear lip and I was good to go with some sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with windows tinted. Do not put K&N filters in the car without a flashed ECU, just stick with new paper filters. I have not had any major issues with the car over the course of my ownership, and maintenance was not a big issue (luckily never had to change the brakes) I put 13k miles on the car in 2 years.

My E63 is now selling for exactly what i paid for it 2 years ago on Craigslist in my area. If i had the chance, i would have bought this car again, but it's time for something new in the near future. I have posted pictures and videos of my car to give you a glimpse of the true beauty of the W211 E63, not just the horror stories you read about. Hope this helps!

-Michael

As you can see, i have a thing for black cars.

2 years and only 13k miles! no woder you never had any issues with it lol. In all honesty i think they are bit more reliable than what the posts here would suggest and I think thats what you were going for.

Ive owned mine for 5 months and already have put 4K on it, with no real issues other than some warranty work that could of been avoided had I looked the car over a bit more. seeing as it was a CPO I didnt worry about it much.

Seems quite a few people are moving into the AM's, any particular reason you chose to go that route?

I love my E63. Had it almost a year now , have put 10k miles on her , I get her checked over every couple of months by a local specialist shop just for the sake of it and she runs , drives, sounds like a dream.
Very minor bits done to her like defuser, front lip, a very small amount of chrome delete. I honestly can't imagine driving anything else.
The ease in which she drives, stops, accelerates from standing or moving is just effortless. I've had many 911's , M cars etc and I state again, I couldn't ever imagine driving anything else again.
In terms of cost over the last 12 months , on maintenance probably around $600. Probably the same again on options I have added, oh and then there's the gas, but that's expected :-)

First AMG 12 months ago, I've lost my heart now..

I had a 2000 E55 and did not love the car. Sold it a year later with 1k miles on it. Then about 6 months ago found a 2007 E63 and love the car. Then the moddind disease reared its ugly head and I went all out. The usual front and rear splitters, headers and SW, then Weistec stage 3. I do not drive my E60 M5 much at all these days, but I will say that the M handles better and the sound of the V10 with full headers and exhaust (and some other stuff) is something to behold.
