MB Command Phone Question
My 2004 MB (Motorola) phone handset has been programmed with pauses and codes that allow me to access my voicemail with a single press of the button. Works fine.
For some reason when I access the voicemail via the Command system the pauses and codes don't work and I need to manually input them via the keypad on the dash. The Command and Motorola owner's manuals haven't been of help.
Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong or whether Command can even handle this?
Much thanks.

I've read, in other threads, that the new (04) cars no longer are able to dial the pause numbers needed for voice mail. I haven't tried yet but was thinking of trying to press the #1 button on my phone for voice mail (it's programmed to dial and pause and then dial the password). I'll try it in the next few days.

Pauses can be dialed in COMAND
All you need to do is to duplicate the voicemail number with all the pauses and password and store them as a separate entry, such as:
212-555-1234 pause pause pause password, etc.
in location 2, for example.
When you check voice mail, you simply press on the COMAND keypad, 2 followed by Send, the sequence will be dialed including the pauses and password.

it works on my 2004 W211 E55 with DVD COMAND and V60. The trick is to ensure you program it separately from the usual 1 position.
The programmed speed dial will work only from the keypad as wel.
Let me know if you have further question.

Thanks for the info. I'm not clear on what I need to do differently. It seems to me that it should not matter whether it is a speed dial or not. I have the pauses programmed into the V60 and it works from there, but when I call the voicemail from Command it connects to the voicemail front door, but it is not communicating the pauses and all the digits from there. Characters that show as "p" for pause on the V60 display show as "7" on the Commnd display, so my sense is that this is where the problem is.
Any suggestions?

Tips for rockminster
What I did was I programmed my voice mail accounts (I have three) with the pauses in locations 4, 7, and 8.
I avoided location 1 as it is usually problematic with many providers blocking it for their own voice mail programming.
When I speed dial the 4, 7, and 8 and then press send on the COMAND keypad, I actually don't see the pauses shown on the screen.
Try using a location other than location 1 perhaps?

I have a v60 kit in my E55 right now and it doesn't work with pauses.

Hmm, are you using a TDMA or a CDMA v60? I assume CDMA, because you say there is a "voice mail number".

I have to have my phone system looked at by the local dealership. My wife says that I keep breaking up, something that never happened with the phone in the C32. From my end everything seems fine. Also, my mute button doesn't work.

Interesting. The pauses (and subsequent passcodes) work when a call is initiated from the speed dial settings on the Command keypad. When the same stored entries are accessed via the steering wheel mounted buttons the voicemail number is dialed but the pauses and codes don't work.
Anyone know why?

Why pauses work with speed dial and not from phone book or dialed calls list
rockminster - I presume your pauses work now?
My explanation is that somehow COMAND cannot store pauses in its system memory. This is why previously 'dialed calls', or phone book entries, regardless whether you recall them from the steering wheel or from the COMAND unit itself, will not dial anything with pauses.
However, when we do a speed dial recall, it bypasses COMAND and pulls the number straight from the phone I suppose?

Yes, my pauses now work when I access the number from the speed dial on the dash numeric keypad. Weird that Command differentiates from a number accessed via the key pad vs. the screen or instrument cluster. Thanks for the tip, as I doubt I ever would have thought to try the keypad.

I believe your E55 is the first I have read in granite grey (a color I seriously considered myself), if you have time, we would certainly appreciate some photos!

I just took delivery last week (hence my questions about phone set-up) and have not yet had a chance to take photos. I must say that I'm very pleased (and relieved) with how nice the E55 looks in this color. It is a rich and elegant color that shows off the lines of the car well. If you haven't seen GG in person, there is A LOT of blue in it. The wheels (which I think look great) are a nice compliment and contrast to the color. I don't think that this color would look as good without the pano roof. The black of the pano roof creates another nice transition and breaks up what might otherwise too much of what is a complex color.
I'll post some pics, perhaps tomorrow night.

Interesting, thanks. I did not go for pano roof I'm glad I picked silver instead.
Granite gray is a nice change from the oh so common black and silver. Have fun with your new car and let us know if you have any further questions about the car!

Ran into a problem yesterday and thought I'd share it in case it happens to anyone else. My 6 disc system froze so that I couldn't eject or input discs. It did play anything already loaded. The fix was to put the key into the 0 position, remove it, and hit the power button to shut the Command system off. Then to position 1 or 2 and the power button again to turn it on again.

Voice mail pauses
They work when the numbers are stored in one of the keypad 'turbo' speed dial locations, from position 2 to 9.
Program the number, pauses, passwords, etc. in one of the 8 speed dial memory locations and directly dial from the keypad:
2 + send
or
2 + ok
Note they only work as described above and will NOT work if you scroll through the phone book or dial from the 'dialed numbers list'.
Got it?
