I don't normally pop tires, but when I do....
...I do it like a boss.
Low tire pressure = melted inner sidewall.

Same thing happened to me. I rode with the air pressure a bit too low and wore out the sidewalls. Once the pressure was back up it was only a matter of time. Good thing your lips were saved, well, at least what I can see from your pictures.

City roadside assistance helped. He blocked the shoulder behind me and helped change the tire.
If he had not pulled up, I would have just had it towed somewhere. No way I'm risking being hit by an inattentive driver just to change a tire.

Hobbled it over to the RH shoulder and down the next offramp. No way was I getting out of that car on the highway!
Ended up getting a new wheel to match the fresh tire too lol.

Damn! I run through a few sets of PSS's a year at the track. I've chunked them, exposed three inch wide by six inch sections of the belts, etc and have been able to get them a couple hundred miles home. But, I've never seen that! Bet it was a hell of a ride!!!!
