Bumpy Ride!

My e55 ride is extremely bumpy. On smooth services this car rides like a dream, no complaints in that regards. But once I hit city streets I can feel every imperfection.

Had three ball joints, a suspension table and an alignment done this past week and Im still shucking and jiving all over the place once I hit city streets.

The car is a 2005 e55 amg with 85000 miles riding on 19 inch vossen's. Feels the same with 18inch OEM rims.

Is this the normal feel of airmatic suspension? Should I be looking into swapping out with arnott...

Advice appreciated!!

AM.

What Airmatic setting do you normally drive in? Sport 2 (both lights on) will definitely be bumpy. Just a side note; I did not experience a difference in ride quality when I switched to Arnott shocks. They are remanufactured OEM parts so they will feel exactly the same as stock.

I notice that if the pot holes and bumps get bad, I can cycle through the automatic modes a few times, and then the ride improves a lot over be rough roads. I read about it from another user and was surprised it made a difference.

thanks for your replies.

I drive in c/c mode while in the city, I switch it to sport mode two and sport the first red I arrive at before any highway driving.

Maybe the damping is a little warn out after the last 25000k miles spent on montreal roads? subframe issues?

Sport II is pretty rigid... bu that's kinda the idea. You mention two different wheel sizes; what are the profiles of the tires.

Generally speaking, if there's any issue with the airmatic, you'll either have a message on the dash, or a suspiciously softer jounce in one or more wheels. Have you visually inspected the clearance on each wheel? -This would also be a basic indication of failure.

This is one of the reasons I won't go bigger than a 19" rim. The tire sidewall just gets too short.

I know 20" may look better, but I won't compromise the ride.

.

I drive on 19inch vossen's mounted on conti's dws. I was extremely hesitant putting them on out of fear of ruining the ride comfort. But they really feel exactly the same as the stock 18's, maybe a touch harder.

My suspension sags very slightly on my passenger rear, both specialized indie shops I go to informed me that they could not find the cause and to wait if the symptoms got worse...

No answers on why it's so stiff though...

the 63 faster...mmm...you mean the 5.5 litter twin turbo is faster.

When my wheels start falling off and my budget allows it...Ill be looking into a newer 55 with the twins. 63 pfff...Ill be switching that badge the minute I buy it. took them 6 years to understand the 55 is king.
