Some AMG Sales news!

from Auto Week, 30 December 2003:

"Sales of AMG-modified Mercedes-Benz models nearly doubled in 2003, to more than 12,000 units, said Mercedes-Benz USA president and CEO Paul Halata. In 2002, AMG added the SL55, S55, G55, CL55 and CLK55 to its offerings and reported 6515 sales in the United States, a tenfold increase from the first year’s results. Some of those models arrived late in 2002, and in 2003 the company also added the E55 to the AMG range."

E55 AMG
Mercedes used to limit production of the W210 E55 to about 500 units for the USA when it was first introduced. This was NOT due to a lack of demand, but rather due to the old AMG Affalterbach factory production limits - as the entire AMG car was being modified at AMG.

Once MB started building the AMG cars on their normal production lines and AMG concentrated solely on the engines in their factory, this increased the overall capacity to build more AMG cars. This article is a proof point that the AMG strategy has paid off for MB.

2004 S55
It also explains why I see so many AMG vehicles around here. I thought they were produced in fewer numbers for the US than what the article states and somehow Atlants was a hotbed for them.

Another good reason to lease rather than buy.
Increased supply will diminish resale values.

There are numerous Mercedes-Benz cars in Atlanta. We've now got four dealerships and you'll see quite a few more
