Brake Pad Issue

Hello all,

I recently rebuilt my brakes on my W211 and went with EBC Yellowstuff as the pad of choice. EBC's yellow pad is the compound intended for track use so I was already expecting to have some issue with noise and dust as with any track-oriented compound which I didn't mind. However, the noise these pads make when engaging the rotor is RIDICULOUSLY loud. I understand that there is a thermal efficiency that these pads best operate but the squeal the car makes driving on the street is nothing short of unbearable.

I'm not too sure what to do. I followed proper bedding procedure and everything associated with proper brake installation. Even with the pads warm and changed my braking style to compensate

SERIOUSLY. Professional WTAC cars with dinner plate rotors, 20pot calipers, and unobtainium pads would not make this much noise stopping at a light... If you can imagine a cruise ship trying to stop on train tracks, it's louder than that. I may have to just change pads but it's irritating to spend money on a company's top shelf parts if this is the end result.

If anyone can lend any suggestions it would help tremendously, thanks!

Its a 4400lb car....why you would ever need race spec pads I will never understand. Get Akebonos or stock and call it a day

I've tried slamming on them but I'll do so again. I just need a road long enough to get to 100 and back to 0 haha!

Well I'm guessing you really don't need pads designed for the race track then.
Why would this be the manufacturers fault? EBC designs pads for all types of use. You chose poorly.

Would you be pissed at Michelin because the Sport Cup tires you bought were constantly wearing out and not providing "top of the line" performance in anything but warm, dry conditions.

As already stated...get the correct pads. Akeenbo if you want low dust, OEM if you want to spend a bit less.

From what I've read, they'll take about 1000 miles to get rid of the noise. That is mixed driving I'm guessing.

I've used EBC Yellows on the beast for the past couple of years and they do squeal when new. After 500 miles of urban driving, perform final bed-in using 7-10 consecutive 65mph to 5mph hard (but short of ABS) stops then cool by immediately cruising on hwy for 20+ mins. Any squeal has disappeared for me after that, and I re bed-in once in a while since regular driving makes brakes operate in abrasive mode. I also use this high temp brake grease
