Surge tank balances? What is it?

Take a look at the 3rd pic down. You will see a pic of the surge tanks but with ports to connect the two. What is the benefit? Anyone seen this before? I'm just curious.

It seems they also have 4 openings up to per piece.
I saw this before, its when people add LPG (gas) injectors to a 55K car. Or maybe its for Meth/water injections?
But the connection between it - i dont know! Seems strange. Cant see the benefit.

they are for balancing the air intake evenly

or just fit dump valves/blow off valves to them

The tops of the tanks are cut and spaced up to add plenum volume. The holes are the mounting points, just look deeper now that the tanks are bigger.

Like said above, the big tube is to even out the pressures in the tanks to help keep cylinder number 8 from running lean like the factory setup has a tendency to do when the engine is modified.

Any benefit of simply bridging the two together? Certainly wouldn't cost $1,500 to run a tube to each.
