09 e63 d engine died underway. cps?

Started sputtering, pulled over and she shut off. Will a failing cps do this? Wants to start but stutters and dies. Coolant level is fine, cooling her down now.

Still wont start...

OK, got her towed home(AAA). Swapped in new CPS that I had on hand from when I first got the car. Still wont start! The last few times I tried starting with old CPS in I didn't even get a sputter, engine just cranks. Same with new CPS in, engine just cranks. Any ideas? Only code was P0336.

Thanks for any help!

Lots of searching, no threads that lead to a fix but am leaning towards my battery maybe being a bit drained even though showing 12.5v on the IC and the engine turning over strong. I'll put battery on a trickle charger for the night and see what happens....CPS will now go on my "every 40K" maint. list.

wiring could be damaged/chaffed. Check the harness while your in there.

Let me take a look.

Wiring looks to be "ok" from what I can see. New battery didn't help either. Need the car on the road so going to the dealer since they are close and my indy is 25 miles away...Pray for me!

Anyone dealt with Fletcher Jones Mercedes of Temecula?

Google Reviews are 5 Star across the board. Me thinks you'll be OK.

Other things to consider...fuel pumps, immobilizer, bad replacement CPS.

Thank you! I hope it's a decent experience.

Fuel pumps and bad cps were next on my list of possible causes. Fuel pumps wouldn't bother me too much as they were on my maint. list next. Didn't think of the immobilizer as I haven't read to much of issues with that system. Good call! I guess I need to invest in a Star setup sometime soon as I am guessing at this point.

Thank you for your responses!

Dealer says fuel pumps. They were on my list to do so not the end of the world. I'm out of town so I just told them to go ahead and do it. Will definitely want my old pump back to check out. Hope they are correct.

Back on the road!

Back up and running. Not too painful of an experience at the dealer. Most of the cost just for parts. Out of all the cars I've owned never had a fuel pump just die with no symptoms beforehand.
