Please Help!! Rear Caliper Bolt

I am having a helluva time loosening the rear caliper bolts on my 04 E55. The bolt is beginning to round and I don't know what to do. If I have to replace the bolts, where do I get them from? I have been searching but I cannot find any info on the external torx bolt.

Sometimes you can break to hold by tightening it prior to loosening it. Impact gun? Liquid wrench? Heat?

If I do manage to get the bolt off, where can I purchase new bolts? Who makes bolts the size of the rear caliper bolts? I believe the bolt is an M18 external torx bolt.

Thanks for the links man! Unfortunately, I still don't know the size and length of the rear caliper bolt. I read the link to the forum and it gives part numbers but I cannot seem to locate the part in any online catalog. I just cannot believe that one would have to purchase new calipers just to get new bolts. I will try the bolt companies that you have listed. Again, thanks to all those who replied to this thread.

If there are anymore suggestions please feel free to respond to this thread.

A211 423 00 71 This is the factory part number, and is available at any dealer. They should be replaced any time they are removed as they are micro-encapsulated with a thread lock agent.

caliper bolt or caliper bracket bolt

I have done it to 05 e55 and 07 e63
Try to use a ring wrench and a pipe to pull on .. LOTS OF heat...Like some one mentioned try to tight it a bit the open it....HEATING IS what does the work....

Thank you all! I have given up for tonight...the battle was lost...but the war is not over lol!! I think I may have to take it to someone to at least get the bolts loose. I am in the DFW area and I would appreciate suggestions.

Why are these bolts so hard to remove? I had the same issue with my S500's front brakes.. after numerous days of swearing i finally got the bolts off with an impact gun and alot of pb blaster.

I call em the diesel bolts! Strong as ***, good luck!

I had this same problem so decided to drive the car to my friends shop and when we put it up in the air it broke free easily. The heat from driving the car will heat the bolt and should break free relatively easily.

Audi S4 (sold), E46 M3 (sold) 05 E55 silver/black(sold)
Had the same problem on my 05. We only had the car jacked up, not on a lift so couldn't get the necessary leverage with a breaker bar. I ended up having the shop do it.

Yep a breaker bar would crack that bolt no problem.

I was also about to give up and go to a shop after not being able to get enough leverage with the car only on jack stands. Guess I could have bought a $500 electric impact gun w/ 700 lbs/ft which would make a nice addition to my tools but not justified for occasional rear rotor changes. But in the end I did remove the bolts manually:

Use a long 1/2" ratchet at least 18" (either short one with pipe over the handle or something like the 18" extendable one by harbor freight). With the appropriate socket extensions and socket to allow secure grip on the bolt, raise a hydraulic jack to turn the ratchet handle. The higher the rear is off the ground, the more travel you have with the ratchet and jack. I had to use a 3" wobble socket extension (again, good cheap set @ HF) to allow slight angling of the ratchet to get a couple more inches of travel without interfering with rear bumper, etc. Using this method I got bolts off both rear calipers. To reinstall, obviously cannot use a jack for leverage but my regular electric impact gun (300 lbs-ft, couldn't undo the bolts), along with locktite tightened more than enough.

Also before I bought the extendable 18" ratchet referenced above, I just slipped a part of the jack's handle over a regular ratchet as extension - fit almost perfectly. Good luck.
