Serpentine belt shredded off, what else should I check before just replacing it?

Serpentine belt shredded off, what else should I check before just replacing it?

So my serpentine belt shredded off at a light while I was making a left turn and immediately after making the left (and yanking the wheel with no powersteering) I pulled off to the side of the road hoping that nothing else got harmed in the process.

So before I try replacing the belt myself could anyone tell me what to check for as far as ruined pulleys or something so I know to bring it into the shop instead of just replacing the belt and thinking it's good to go?

Any advice is very much appreciated!

most likely the double idler pulley is broken

All the pulleys are spinning fine and don't really have any play at all in them. Could it still be bad?

Maybe the belt was just old and should have been preventive maintenence to replace before the inevitable? Put a new one on and make sure there is no wobble to it
