Ha, I know what you mean. I did the same thing, I had an aftermarket one, and to most people it looked decent. (I wasn't feeling it) I recently installed an OEM one and its like Now that's the way it should be. It fits real nice, it doesn't have waves, and the finish is awesome.
You know the old saying you get what you pay for.

I got the pre-painted one from JBspeed for both the E55 and SL. Both fit as good as OEM for me.

I have an aftermarket one that fits perfectly. I think when it comes to aftermarket parts, it's hit or miss.

That's smokin' bro with just a 4lb on the MP. Good tuner there! I had a KB 2.3 on my last one, but still have the stock Eaton on the current truck. There's an MP group buy going on for $1,200.

I had the JB one on the car. I found an oem one in the classifieds, and it was perfect except it was the wrong color? No biggie had it painted and the match is on the money.

I was going to give the JB one to Nomad, but he already bought one.
