fuel filter

Anyone come up with a drivers side replacement FUEL FILTER yet so it can be swaped out without removing everything? So far only factory replacement was found and both sides have to come apart to replace a Driver side filter.

You would have to remove the stock one anyway. To do that you would have to remove the pumps or at least disconnect them on the passenger side.

Some companies make filters close to the size. But sufficient flow and micron specs worried me. I ended up forking over for a new unit. 480ish I think I paid. But now I'm worry free.

When did the factory replacement get found? And where do I get one? I read the forum everyday, don't know how I missed that.

We have successfully installed an inline micro mesh fuel filter with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. As a matter of fact, put a return style fuel setup on my car. Runs great and very easy to service the fuel filter. we used the Russell Filter setup and element from summit racing.

Does fuel pressure stay as the stock unit?

How often do you have to replace the fuel filter?

OK how about this. Remove the stock filter from the basket, put it back together and install the external filter up front leaving all the other factory stuff alone. PCM should not notice anything no?

Just talked to Craig at BIP. All I can say is what a fantastic guy! It was a pleasure talking to someone who is straight up, not afraid of stepping outside the box and a wealth of information. Hope to be dealing with him soon.

On the subject of fuel systems its amazing that little 5/16 ? fuel line is big enough to feed these engines. When would you have to step up in size if you did at all? I forgot to ask him.

Good talking with you too brotha Hope to get this sorted the way you intend it to be.

Hulk, yes sir the fuel pressure unit stayed in the stock location. We welded the factory regulator up so it does not see any pressure. The pressure is regulated by my adustable regulator in the engine bay. It is set to factory psi, I think around 65psi at idle. As boost increases, so does the fuel pressure.

On the factory setup, as boost increased, the pressure would decrease.

Just ordered a -6an billet 90 degree washable fuel filter that will be atatched to the center of the fuel rail along with looped bungs for the ends. This will end the factory filter saga and increase the flow rate as well as balance it out. Problem solved!!

I am also using a -6 inline filter. I bought one from fuel labs and tucked it underneath the car by the driver side rear tire.

Would love to see pictures of this when it's done, or even the process.

I'm also hoping / guessing they all removed and left out the factory filter from its standard fuel clogging location? Not rhetorical.

Was fuel pressure measured before and after this mod?

No. But ....... This is what I base my mod on. Fuel injectors will propagate pressure fluctuations all through the fuel rails. Plus the effect of bends and turns in the fuel line/rail causes a loss of "energy"so to speak on the injector. The result ends up to be pressure fluctuations on the injector itself. Normally from what I have seen on the engine Dyno is the furthest injector from the inlet feed line will be effected the most....result....lean cylinder. So entering the fuel from dead center, if you can,and balance the end of the rails by crossing over to the other side will normally fix this. If you notice most fuel fuel rails have a balance weight/diaphragm on the rail.It was intended to combat this problem and does to a small extent but when an engine is on the edge....not so much.
