help, oil leak E63 upper oil pan?
hi all,
had zero engine problems before w/ amg V8 incl prior S55 and current CLK55 cab, however, i'm getting small oil leak on my 2007 E63.
this was something that's been going on a while since i bot car, but it's sooo small that i've never had to add oil.
now, my mechanic tells me it's the "upper oil pan" and requires special MB silicon, but importantly, the entire suspension needs to be removed and it's a 12 HOUR JOB!?!
can you guys share you opinion, as i don't recall this being such a big job when i first asked about this before buying the car.
also, front needs replacement of control/thrush arm(?) and it's $400 for parts for 2, but i guess minimal labor since suspension already out?
bottom line, current indep saying it's about a $1,500 job for both.
any input would be VERY appreciated.
happy holidays everyone

My indy did lower oil pan gasket a couple of months ago. said I'm lucky it wasn't upper oil pan leak. Now of course the upper pan is leaking. quote is $1,300.
Definitely do control arms at the same time. Check them all for wear.

It would depend on the exact location of the leak. On the 63 motors they have a split crankcase design that is sealed with the MB silicone Then the upper and lower oil pans as well. Be sure that the crankcase is not leaking. Engine can be removed from the top as well to perform this repair
