Interesting, I saw both 2.65 & 2.82 when I googled it.. What is the Final gear on the latest E63 Biturbo models? I know this threads about w211 E63...
The reason I figured 2.65, was all the other W211 E55's got 2.65 gears. Beyond the incorrect Google data.. The SL55 got lucky w/2.82's back then..
Dayummm MB keeps upping the perf the latest 2015 E63 Biturbo gets 3.06's While my 2005 Biturbo got stuck w/lame ultra tall 2.65's argh... Shorter gearing (higher Final Gear numbers) adds excellent Torque Multiplication IE faster low end launches etc..
I would love to see the perf gains on a REAL working 3.06 swap to SL65/600 platform.. Hell the 2015 G63 gets the whoppers 4.11's though it's near 6k lb curb weight needs that umphh.. I had 3.90's swapped into my previous C6 Corvette from stock 2.73's the difference was utterly shocking in neck snapping launches & brutal speed from all that extra TQ multiplication, the calculation if memory serves... You multiply your engine Torque by Final Drive gear to see just how much it improves/multiplies actual TQ output to the wheels, & as you can imagine it's the single best (Cost effective) modification 1 can do to dramatically change a cars perf w/out putting/adding any extra stress to the engine (the Driveline/half shafts etc will be new weak link)
Final gear ratio is only part of the big picture. The individual gear ratios is the other half of it.
I installed 2.82 gear in my E55 and I absolutely love it. It pulls much harder in every gear, and it's clear they put 2.82 in the SL55 because of that.

Very true.. Each gear ratios is just as important as the Final..
The 211 E63 has a 2.82 rear, mostly due to the 722.9 7-speed trans. as well as the high revving 156 engine. The E55 has 2.65. Interestingly the C55 (naturally aspirated V8 E55 engine) has 3.06 (!) gearing and can easily keep up with my modded E55 up to around 40 MPH. Another friend was also able to keep up on the highway with me in his C55, (although I was less modded at the time) and his had headers and a tune only! SL55 has 2.82 because of the weight.
There are 2 different families of rear axles mouted in E55/SL55/CLS55:
Up to 2004 it is HAG210-family (screwed drive shafts on the left and the right) and later it is HAG215-familiy (plugged drive shafts).
Mounting points of rear axles are the same in R230, W211 and C219.
W203, C209 and R171 have different mounting points and the do not fit in W211.
Same is with W220, C215 and W240.

Could you help with my case? My VIN is WDD2110545L010276. I am looking for A2113506262 (ratio 3,27) as I was told by dealer. But according to EPC, ratio is 2,82 with 4 other part numbers. I am really confused.
I have a w211 E550 (m273, 285kw) which i believe has a 2.47 final gear.
If i would swap in a E63 final gear 2.82, how much would I gain in terms of 0-60 acceleration? (half a sec?)
Also, E63 final gears are more expensive than lets say E350 petrol ones (which i believe have 3.07 final drive). Will the pumpkin form E350 petrol (which has less torque than e550) not handle the strain?
Also, If i replace the final drive with different ratio, do i need to reprogram the TCU? I have a buddy in dealership who can do change the stock software for cheap but it needs to be some stock map. or should i go of completely custom map?
I have a used AMG Performance Studio (P30) LSD with 2.82 gear ratio for sale. I can also recode the TCU then. Just need the TCU shipped to me and I can return it together with the LSD.
Yup, my 07’ E63 had the 2.82 rear diff gear ratio until I just got done rebuilding the whole rear end and installed 3.06 Ring&Pinion w/LSD after several months since just after the onset of COVID!! I got my gears from a 07-09 Charger SRT8 off E bay and installed it using the Pinion and it’s fresh bearing and race amazingly! I had the OEM replacement but the dude at the shop who helped me out swore he would use them! It took a while to replace all the rear bushings, brakes, installed rubber disc’s on the Driveahafts, new hubs and flanges, Air Springs and Shocks, but she’s all back together just waiting to be filled up with oil! Can’t wait!!!! DriveShaft, Rear Axles are removed. The Rear Subframe is disconnected and the Diff is balanced on a Tranny Jack. Here I’m installing the first of 4 Subframe Bushings with my Home Grown Tool! A little dish soap and water are your friend when installing any rubber into metal. It dries up and doesn’t remain slippery! All Bushings installed including those in the Arms, Carrier Torque Bush, as well as those in the front removable Diff Cross Support and in the rear. I had to reattach the subframe to the car after installing the Subframe Bushings in order to remove the Diff. I then used a plank of wood to support the subframe to get it out from under the car to more easily access all bolts for the Control Arms, rear Diff bushings. I used calipers to measure bushing clearance before removal, but still had to make a couple adjustments during mock up with the carrier to make sure it moved up/down without binding. Installed KMac Bushing in the Arms which are Poly and can be fully tightened before weighting the car, unlike OEM Bushings! Major Time saver! In fact they moved up and down no problem during mock up fully tightened! Money Shot with everything back together including new shocks, rebuilt AirSprings, UPD Toe Arms!!!
The 3.06 Ring & Pinion Hear Final Gear Ratio paired with the 722.9 Transmission in my E63 puts me right at 55mph in 4th gear at 3k rpm, right where the powerband starts! I know the pic doesn’t show this but it should give you good idea. I hit approx. 70mph in 4th gear at 4k rpm. And at 5k rpm in 4th I’m just about 90 mph!
