Battery control module has to be programmed to VIN?
Had my car diagnosed and apparently it is the battery control module (BCM) that keeps draining the battery. They want about $1200 for the diagnose and install of a new one ($500 part?).
I told them I will just buy it myself and install it, they told me good luck because the module will need to be programmed to my VIN?? Is this true?
Also 1 other thing, my fan started running weak without the A/C on. Like when the fans kicks in without the A/C on I can literally stop it with my finger. Could it be the bad battery control module causing that? I'd hate to replace that not realizing the control module replacement would eliminate it.

MBWorld Fanatic!
for me, when i replaced my bcm, i didnt have to do that. Just pulled the battery cables off, removed bcm, and installed new one in. Reinstalled battery cables, reset my windows and sunroof. Done and no issues at all.

Thank you! All of you. shardul do you think the problem with the BCM could possibly cause the fan to run weak? Or is that a separate problem you think? I can't trust driving the car anywhere right now without blasting the A/C to make the fan run high. Common sense would tell me if this BCM thing is troubled then maybe the fan has a weak current because of that..? But I'm probably wrong. I just don't know if the fan is an additional problem or if the BCM will fix it? Hm..

2003 E320
Per Benz Dealer
I am currently having the same issue with my 03 E320. Replaced module and didnt fix my issue. Called dealer and was told that there was no I need to program the control module to the vehicle. Then he realized that there was a service bulletin on the control module which yes, the program module have the codes erased out of it and then needs to be recoded to the vehicle if it's a used module or new module. Was able to find either refurbished or new control modules vs online search. If you need the links to the company just let me know and I can give them to you. Hope this helps.
