2007 E63 valve covers, Major Oil Leak!
New to the forum and to Mercedes, purchased a s211 e63, recently noticed some oil leaking from the valve covers. the gaskets have been changed (at a Benz dealer by previous owner) several times and I was under the impression that it would be covered by the parts warranty. After the car was at the local dealer for three days. They quote me for $3k for new valve covers. As I stand now I plan to pick up the car and take it to my trusted independent mechanic. Anyone heard of this replacing valve covers instead of just gaskets?

It's most likely the valve cover gaskets again, the dealer doesn't want to warranty it since you're not the previous owner who paid to get them done and it's not even the same dealer. I'd take it to an Indy.

The "several times" changed (valve cover gaskets) might be an underlying issue with the PCV valve not working properly, allowing crankcase pressure to find another way out through the valve cover gaskets.

Seemed kinda fishy that the car would need new valve covers, as they aren't tipically wear items. I am going to give MB North America a ring to get to the bottom of the warranty questions. In the mean time I will probably swap the pcv myself and get the valve covers redone elsewhere.
