How rare is the merlot two-tone interior?
My car has it as one of the few options. Just wondering if it was a cost, or no-cost option and if anyone has an idea of how rare it is? thanks

It's part of the Designo package which I think cost about $2k extra. There is also and black/blue package as well.
As far as numbers I idea, but glad mine has it!!

What color is your cars paint? Merlot and black is a designo upgrade as is blue and black. Mine is blue and black, with black opal metallic paint, which are both designo options.

There's a couple of free russian sites too, you just have to use google's translate to english function.

Also while something may be rare, it doesn't make it valuable. My car is a designo graphic which is a pretty rare color, but I didn't end up paying any extra when I got it as a used car. Dealer didn't even know it, was listed as flint grey instead. With so many color combinations and options, it's possible for each car to be unique.

They're not Designo colors.
It's not a Designo interior to my knowledge. Not according to the window stickers nor the brochures. Whoever is stating it's a Designo interior is mistaken.
E55s are available with the following interiors (color names are exactly from the brochure):
1. Charcoal/Charcoal
2. Charcoal/Dark Blue
3. Charcoal/Merlot Red
These three colors are completely standard.
Here's the exact wording in the brochure:
"...with Charcoal AMG-design leather seat bolsters and soft, sanded nubuck leather inserts in your choice of matching Charcoal, deep Merlot Red, or rich Dark Blue."
A lot of used car salespeople refer to the colors as Designo colors because they don't know any better or they want to increase the perceived value of the car. Don't get taken by those salespeople and don't get taken by other misinformed persons on this forum.

thanks for the info, but wen I type my vin into the vin-search, various options come up as "designo", even the wood trim that I have. weird

Just use EPCnet. It's free for users in the US, just requires a credit card to register, but you don't get charged. The datacard will list all options.

When I was shopping for my car years ago the merlot as well as the blue interior options were easily available. I almost bought a blue E55 with the blue interior. I scoured the build sheet and it was just a standard option.
Two-tone interiors are not super common, but they were out there. And definitely (at least on the early models w/no designo designation) also offered as a standard option.
