I vaguely remember that they activate after the 5th cycle of cleaning the windshield. My car is clean at the moment or I would go try it for you.

My 07 E350 has a button to press for them specifically so when you push it they activate. But, never ever even have used the windshield washer before in my AMG's. I don't think the 07 or 08 have that button. So its likely 4 or 5 times on the windshield and they will go off like the other member said.
When I did my wheel well work, I drained my resivoir of fluid buy popping out the tube on the bottom. Holy cow that fluid stunk like manure and smelled the whole front of the house up. Its was truly horrible. I stuck a hose in the top and ran water through it. But since the car was clean never ran the system to clean the pipes out. Put all new in, but have only driven in the rain once in past 4 months so never even thought to run the system. I don't drive it in the rain, too nice. But, just as a reminder most of us never use the system so might want to drain the old and put in new. My e350 was the same and when I went to use it in the snow, it worked, but then ten min later did it again and one side clogged up with crap. Cost $70 to replace that so made sure this time this car had a clean system.

I've seen them a few times. The thing to remember is that they only squirt with the headlamps on. It's 5 times on the windshield washer fluid. Actually used them while driving in a storm. I think they got rid of the button on 2007+.
