E63 transmission issues. Please read.
I'm looking in to this for a friend of mine. He's got an 08 E63 that occasionally acts up. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Here's how he describes it.
"Sometimes when I'm driving (gear shifter in "D") the car does not shift gears (rpm just keeps on going higher) and when you try to shift manually (either with the gear shifter or paddles on the steering wheel) nothing happens. but if I stop the car, turn off the ignition and immediately re-start the car everything (transmission) functions normally (re-sets).
If I'm going uphill the car revs at high rpm but doesn't move as it should.
Once, I tried to put the car in "R" reverse and the car wouldn't go back (move) so I turned of the ignition and immediately re-started the car put it in reverse and it functioned normally"

Sounds like it could be a conductor plates & plug issue. Very common. My car was doing something similar, except I could manually shift...I will be doing the conductor plat, plug, and flush tomorrow

As the two other members said, IT IS THE CONDUCTOR PLATE for sure no question about it. Both of my E63's have had the issue around 60-75k miles. They start acting up exactly like that, then WILL leave you stranded on the side of the road at some point. Get it into a dealer for repair asap. I was left stuck on the side of I-95 100 miles south of Richmond VA while moving. Not good, but Merc paid for the tow and the extended warranty paid for the repair. $950 was the price. Get it done before your friend gets stuck.

Its the conductor plate and im 98% sure on it. You have a fault code stored in TCU and only SDS could scan it. Its the internal speed/rpm sensor inside the valve body and this issue is very common on 722.9 transmission. Most MB dealers charges $900-$1200 and thats including transmission flush I believe.
