Need your recommendations on what you currently use or would use. My car doesnt have a phone cradle or anything in the center console. I am looking for the following features:

1. Stream music from android phone via bluetooth
2. Control songs from either steering wheel or comand unit. Must be able to see the artist and title
3. Handsfree phone calls via car speakers
4. Top quality sound
5. A nice to have would be reading songs from a usb stick instead of phone.
6. No butchering wires

Whats everyone here using and are you pleased?

 

Do you have the ipod cable? My guess is that you don't, but I think you can just buy the ipod cable and connect it to your comand in the back. I think that's the only way to get #2. Unfortunately, it's only an ipod touch or an iphone. I use spotify so I was able to get a 4th gen ipod touch (cowboom.com sells used ones cheap) which still had the 30 pin connector and sync it with my spotify playlists.

It's somewhat annoying how you can buy a garmin GPS with bluetooth in it for less than $100, but getting it from the manufacturer costs hundreds, probably closer to $1000.

 

I have the ipod jack in glovebox i think no cable though.

 

It's probably the aux jack, the ipod cable would be a 30 pin connector. If you just have a jack, then you don't have the ipod cable.

I'm not sure it would be worth it for you to wire the car for bluetooth if it's not pre-wired for bluetooth. There's some module you'd have to add to the Comand system, then you'd have to add that connector in the glove box and then add the bluetooth puck.

The other way is to go with an aftermarket comand unit, they're aftermarket android systems that may do everything you want, however they don't seem to sell too many of them so if you run into problems, you're not going to find too much help.

Post the vin number, there should be some option code for bluetooth.

Has anyone used this unit? If so, what are their pros/cons in their opinion?

 

Looks like a nice unit that has everything $500 USD. I watched an install video & a few wires have to be hacked, not ideal but not much choice unless you go with the Android 4.2.2 $500 USD or Dynavin N6 MBE $1,100 USD

 

The Dynavin looks plug N play. Gonna research both.

 

That Android 4.2.2 looks sweet. How long has that "New" ribbon been on there? If that could take GPS from the factory antenna, that would be quite legit. Possibly even too legit to quit.

I think the Dynavin requires you to bypass the fiber optic connections?

 

I have the mObridge unit. Just upgraded from the one that was in the car when I bought it (AB2010) to the M2.Pro. Does everything you mentioned and is FULLY integrated. Uses the Fiber Optic BUS that is in all of the German Cars.

BT (phone/streaming music), iPod, Navi, DVD, sound quality, ease of use, initial loading times, etc....any information that would help folks to make an informed decision on whether or not to buy.

if you have a factory HK Stereo and want OEM functionality as described you'll have to do what I did. Install OEM iPod Interface which replaces your Aux line input located in your glove box. Then purchase a ViseeO Tune2Air wma1000. This only supports track name listing and music library reading if you have an apple product. Now then if you'd like to support audio calling you'd need the OEM or aftermarket version of the bluetooth telephone puck.

then there is denson or parrott integration kits.

I had a bluetooth puck already, and wished I just went with what I did with my Audi per information from other mbworld thread. Install an aftermarket bluetooth aux input that supports music and calling. Also supports bluetooth 4.0 and aptx for higher quality audio.

$30 dollars vs $180+$90 is quite a huge price difference.

On a full charge, the unit has gone as long as 6-hours of continuous streaming. I haven't been on trips longer than that since purchasing, yet.

The unit has great quality, and doesn't take long to charge.

One issue I've noticed, is that it states there's phone support, though I believe it accomplishes this through a microphone-capable headphone jack, versus a built-in mic, or phone mic. Suffice it to say, I've not been able to use the phone function.

Instead, I just disabled the phone audio profile on my phone. This way, when the phone rings, the streaming stops, and I can answer by hand, or another connected Bluetooth device.
