Replacing a japanese command unit by a normal one

The Jap command tends to have more features than the stock commands and looks different in the front aswell. All the additional stuff must be the voice control cd changer underneath the unit, tv etc etc.
I have been thinking about trying to replace mine with one of those chinese siecam ones advertised on youtube which has android and the torque app built in so you can have different gauges on the screen.
Just not sure on the fitment.
Its a real pitty the didnt make the stock unit more adjustable as its a nice system other than being dated.

I can't help sorry but I have a Japanese import and it was fairly easy to replace with a standard pioneer or other unit. My guess is that would be much easier and give you better functionality. Even those Android w211 specific ones would probably be easier.

How'd you remove the cables under the CD changer?
Hi Z_de_Suisse, mind if I ask how you removed the cables underneath the CD changer?
I've been trying to remove my head unit and get stuck after taking the ashtray out because I'm not sure how those cables come out.
I believe there's a T shaped connector that three separate connectors attach to which restrict the movement of the CD changer.
Was kinda scared to tug any harder than I was.
Happy to help you with anything you might need as I'm in a similar process (2008 E63 US). Thanks!

In the meantime, I just did nothing and continued lessening to CD's

Hi,
I'm in the middle of replacing a japanese command, I decided to go the android route and up to this point I just got audio and no streeringwheel controls or IC interface.
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...placement.html
Yesterday I got my can bus dongle to work so I can write a program to delete the audio, telephone and navigation screen in the IC. Once I get this to work I will write a tutorial with the source code for Arduino or Pi.
The steeringwheel controls are still a mystery atm with the android unit. At this point I suspect a faulty unit. I hope the can bus dongle can make me a bit wiser on this matter.
