E55 Oil Change without a lift.....
Yes I've performed a search....but I still have a few questions, why change my own oil..because I LOVE working on my own rides. Ok so I'm ready to perform an oil change on my 05 E55 (1st on E55) and wanted some input/help from people who have performed this task. I've changed my own oil on all of my previous cars and I've put well over a million miles on them so needless to say this is NOT my first oil change....but it is on my E55.
So here are my questions:
1) Since I don't have an entire car lift what is the best way to get underneath an E55 (jacking/ramps) in order to get the 2 plugs pulled but yet still get all the oil out? I have ramps which I'm not sure will go down low enough for the car to drive up on. I thought I've seen a center jacking point in the front of the car also...thoughts?
2) It looks like the torque specs on the oil drain plugs are 27 ft/lbs from what I can tell. Is this correct? I'm not sure what the torque spec is on the oil filter housing?
3) I have the oil filter (new gaskets) 2 drain plugs, 2 copper crush washers and 9 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 (2 X 5 quart jugs) and a lot of time for the oil to drain. I've read how to reset the service indicator through the main menu. Is there anything else I might have forgotten?
Thanks,
Mark

1) I use a pair of 2x4s to help raise the car a little before the ramps. Yes, there is a center jacking pad underneath the motor right in the middle.
2) Not sure how much torque specs matter at 27ft/lb there. Just snug it down without overcranking it. Same with the oil filter housing.
3) Do you have new o-rings for the oil filter stalk?

Rhino ramps for the front - just drive on,, and place a car jack under the rear diff with a 2x4 on the jack pad - watch out for the heat sink

No need to raise the rear.
...if anything, the front drain plug is on the driver's side of the oil pan, and the rear one (with most of the oil) is in the middle on the back.
So first I raised the front via the center pad and drained the oil from the rear bolt. Once that finished and thoroughly drained, I reinstalled and torqued back down, and then dropped the car back down.
Then I lifted from the front passenger side jack pad and drained from the front hole.

Lift with jack, place safety under some part of the frame "just in case" the floor jack lets go... seems pretty standard, lol...
