I guess that the cost sounds reasonable but I'm not a big fan of the feel or lack thereof. More importantly, I'm not comfortable with greater potential for failure.

I haven't yet seen a good estimate for 2003.
What ever happened to ~500 units per year for the US? Sucks to be popular.

Yep, every 211 (except the 4Matic) starting production september 2003 has it already on.

As for the M5's power, I do know this much:

My uncle works for a company that developed SMG for BMW's M3(for Getrag, the actual tranny manufacturer). He is receiving a test version of the new M6 in 2 months. I know it isn't an M5, but he said it will be a V10 with 540hp. He gets to test it for a couple weeks, for SMG purposes. I could only assume the power would be the same in the M5.

How can anyone doubt the HP underrating of the E55? Just use a acceleration calculator - plu g in the wt of the E55 at 4000k (sans driver, 4200 with driver), the 1/4 mile trap speeds as tested by the mags (116mph), and the resultant HP is 522.

The quoted numbers were for North America.
The US does get the majority of those, but not all of them.

Then that makes is an even bigger joke. When I ordered mine in 1998, I was told 500 units per year for 4 years. From the numbers quoted in this thread, it is well over 6000. I guess that's why I see myself coming and going all day.

...........just by the fact that Mb was spending all that money advertising the "beast" on national television.........that was my clue that it was not going to be a limited production car. I very much like the E55, but I have put my E55 planns on hold. I would like to purchase a very fast 4 door sedan with automatic transmission. My choices are E55, RS6, S55, S600. I am leaning towards the S600, but I wish it came with the double quad exhausts.

My plans are on hold as well. I'll wait for the M5 to shake the tree a bit. BTW, you can always add quad pipes!

If Merceds does put the 7G gear into the 05' E55, how would that affect the performance? A lot quicker 0-60? or more smoother shifting and more fuel efficient?

In time to compete with the new M5.
