Intermittent Starting Problem
I have a 2004 E55 AMG. The issue is that it has started to occasionally give problems starting. I turn the key, and the starter will turn the engine about one revolution, and stop. This is similar to this thread, but different. In this thread, the starter continues to run. https://mbworld.org/how-tos/a/merced...t-start-388062 I thought it was a bad battery, but if I wait a minute, or an hour, the car starts just fine and strong. I've had this problem when cold and warm, so no correlation there. I did have a couple of times where I used the key to open all the windows and sunroof to cool down the interior, but then had it happen to me without doing anything strange. Someone mentioned it might be a bad key FOB, which I can try using a different one.

From the other threads I read, the motor will continue to crank over. Will a bad crank sensor cause the starter to stop after about one revolution?
I can see the computer doing something like that. I just didn't see that as a symptom of a bad CS.

Sounds like it could be the starter ring gear on the flywheel needing to be lubed (with an anti Seize paste) this is more common on v12. Access through the cover on the bottom of the bell housing. Lube the teeth but not the crank sensor pickups.

I'm in the market to buy a Star Diagnostic System. I've been trying to pull down air conditioner error codes, but the published key sequences aren't working for me. So, I was trying a bunch of different combinations, starting the car each time. Eventually, the problem happened. I waited three minutes, then it started up no problem. I think if I do this with SDS attached I could probably capture the thrown error.

I bought an SDS, and it is not showing any error codes. However, I have been paying more attention to the system and believe that this is a symptom of a failing fuel pump. My car has the fuel smell, meaning a leaky fuel system that's covered under the recall.
I have found that if I pull out the key after a failed start, and wait for all of the pumps, and what not sounds to stop, that it will start immediately after that.

I had this issue with I first purchased mine. I could not find it and replaced the CPS, fuel pump relay and starter motor with solenoid and kept having the issue. My issue was on hot restarts after sitting in traffic, I had a fuel pump leak as well. I was tuned with a 180CP when I had the issue and after a re-tune it was reduced by ~50%. Over time it went away and has not been an issue in several months. I am not sure what it was and it seemed like time fixed it. The PO never drove the car and I DD it. Here is a video of my issue when it was happening.

Its the starter. The only reason the starter would not go through the whole start cycle is a failing starter or because it has lost its signal which is a lot less likely then a failing starter. I just went through this with a car.
