CeramiClear was developed in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz during a 3-year period, with commercialization occurring in August 2002 at the Mercedes' Sindelfingen, Germany, plant. A second Mercedes-Benz plant, at Bremen, Germany, has also begun use of the product. PPG said commercialization of the clearcoat in Europe will accelerate this year.
PPG said it also has developed an aftermarket clearcoat offering comparable levels of protection as the factory-applied CeramiClear clearcoat in auto-refinish applications.
PPG's previous PACE award-winning products are the FrameCoat electrodeposition coating (2002), the Audioguard sound- and vibration-damping coating (2001), and the Enviracryl powder clearcoat (2000).
