Tangled with a P85D

Educational, those things are exceedingly fast from low speed. I've got one in my neighborhood and it was being driven in a very naughty fashion. Caught up to him and sure enough we got onto some clear road and he floored it from about 15 mph and he pulled away till about 60, at which point I crawled up his bumper and had to back off. There's a test n tune drag thing locally coming up Oct 3, I wanna go track this guy down and see if I can't talk him into going. If at all possible, work schedule allowing, I'll bring this sled down there just for reference purposes...

I raced one. Their fast off the line, as they stick, I spun and he got me initially, then I would have run him over.. Keep in mind on the open road they max out at 125.. So do a 65 plus pull and you should kill him.. I know I would..

I would race one... from a 60mph roll.

Have you seen the "insane mode launch reactions" video? Guy films his passengers' reactions to the launch mode. Good stuff and an impressive vehicle for sure.

I was merging onto the freeway at a decent speed. I was doing 60 on the ramp and the freeway is 55mph. A P85D on the freeway didn't want me to get ahead of him and tried to give me the squeeze. I hammered it and beat him to the merge point and gave him a wave at 120. Good thing I was in my sweet spot because my lane was ending soon.

We got lined up at a red light a little bit down the road and he wouldn't even look at me. I took off from there expecting him to go, but he just grannied it.

Tesla is currently offering a $5000.00 software upgrade for the P85D that increases power from 691hp/687 lb-ft to 762hp and over 800 lb-ft. This power increase will be available in the upcoming P90D and it is reported that with the additional power, the P90D will be able to sprint to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds on street tires.

Yeah, this power increase will make them harder to pull from a rolling speed once they get the jump from anywhere from 0-40mph. Most normal street encounters go from 0-90mph tops, so the Tesla will beat just about anything from a launch and low speed roll. The highway a course is a different story.

Epic win. Talk about putting the guy in his place haha. You wrestled him to the ground and he wouldn't even glance at you after that.

I had the opportunity to test drive a Tesla P70D a few weeks ago and its no joke, the thing is pretty fast (and its the entry model). Now it was a test drive so I dod a few passes and on-ramps, nothing crazy, but in normal driving it feels as fast as the AMG stock. I was very impressed with the whole car and I am not stranger to 350-500 hp cars.

Anyway I didn't know they were top speed limited as someone posted to 125, but still, approach these with some caution.

Yeah. I'm sure I caught him off guard. He probably didn't have it in
"insane" mode either.

Dug this thread up cuz I ran into the same car yesterday. This time he came up behind me. Turn 90 R at intersection onto an open road and this feller went wide to pass me in the oncoming lane. I went round the intersection at a normal pace, doing maybe 15mph, saw him go to pass and thought "aw hell. It's raining, I'm gonna just wheelspin, but I'll try and make him work for it at least"... well, that's not what happened. w211 is preternaturally good at putting power down. Punched it as soon as I got the car going straight and he disappeared into my rearview mirror. So I slowed back down to 40, point made and all, and he tucked in behind, and tried again. This time I let him come even with my door before opening the taps. Oh look, there he goes right back into my mirrors. I got to chat with the guy later, a decent feller with the right attitude. He says he is gonna buy the software upgrade to the P90 spec as soon as its available... gollygee I wonder why?

This 12 year old 2ndhand Merc is just shockingly quick. And I suspect, even quicker on cold rainy days. Makes me wonder if Aquamist on the intercooler would be a good idea.

Beat him up from a roll… Rolls are a lot more fun, less chance for mistake and excuses.
