Car won't shift - P2560
Hi all,
I need some helps here. My CLS55 was driving ok today, then it suddenly stopped shifting after a stop. If I turn the car off, wait for couple minutes, turn it back on, it will shift again, but the transmission will not hold after 1-2 minutes and it will not engage in any gear (R, or D) after that. Turn it off and wait a bit then turn it back on, it will engage again, but same thing happens again after 1-2 minutes.
Pull code from STAR, it's P2560 "The gear is implausible or the transmission is slipping. (1. gear)".
Has anyone experienced this? Do I need a new transmission or just conduct plate or may be some solenoids?
Please share your experience!
Thanks,

Dang...
Thank you Shardul and all!
That is bad. The plate, filter, oil, gasket, e cap cost $250+. I see couple used trans on eBay for $1000. I think just bite that.
Shardul, how much is for rebuilding in average?
Thanks!

Thanks Shardul and all,
Updated:
Since I prepared myself for a new trans, nothing to lose I dropped the pan. I thought that I already had the oil replaced 2 years ago, but I might probably be wrong since I have couple cars and don't remember which one I had service on. Anyway, oil turned dark and I also found small metal scraps on the pan. It was bad sign.
I continued dropping the conductor piece off and found that the metal scraps cover the the speed sensor. I cleaned all up and put everything back. Now car shifts fine from 1-3, when it shifts to 4, it doesn't hold gear 4th, but turns back to neutral, then slowly turns to 3.
Well it didn't totally fix the problem, but the fact that it behaves better now, I would think, the conductor plate or the entire piece including solenoid will fix the issue.

So just for reference...no need to panic even on such described condition!

I would change the filter again after some driving and add and drain fluid for another week also. Tq converters and other parts can hold burnt fluid and shavings. I know people that got a new transmission and didn't flush the converter and it killed the tranny in a few thousand miles. That was in other platforms

Update
So yesterday, it didn't hold 4th gear probably due to the oil didn't get filled in all of the solenoid tunnels after cleaning. Today everything is perfect so far. 100+ miles and it smoothly shifts like nothing ever happened. I am planning flushing the fluid + new filter next week.
Hope it hold for long. I am feeling lucky
Thank you all:

On the next refill you should consider using Fuchs 4134 fluid. A little pricey, but the improvement in performance over other ATF's (including Fuchs 134) is impressive.
I service the 722 every two years along with the power steering fluid. For myself, simply a little extra peace-of-mind.

If you didn't see any part #s on the metal you found, you may be okay.

When you say tiny flakes/shavings, how tiny and what color? I ask because 2 weeks ago my E55 exhibited the same behavior. I dropped my pan and found silver and copper colored shavings in there and automatically figured a rebuild/swap is in order. Changed the fluid and filter earlier this year and had no flakes/shavings. Just more of a film especially on the magnet. I'll try and post a picture for reference of the size of shavings.

You must be stoked! Good for you.. A lot of good info in here. I change my trans fluid and filter every 50-60k miles then as recommend I go back a few weeks later and drain out the remaining amount they couldn't get out of torque converter and refill with new oil.
The Expert said also to NEVER flush these transmissions. I asked for it, thinking it would be good. But, the insisted to never do it. Because it dislodges particles and can get into places you don't want them going and cause premature trans failure. This is what I was told by a few Mercedes Trans experts from Indy shops.
Anyways I will be going to my do my trans oil service next week after I install my new alternator. Just another reason to keep all the fluids and filters clean.

Hi all,
I need some helps here.
Thanks,
