Overly sensitive ESP ?

Hi Guys,

After I did the upgraded the SC pulley, belt wrap and new cooling, the car has some hesitation right around 3600 - 3800, under very light acceleration, I feel a slight surge of power about 3600 then it cuts, then comes back.

I chatted to Jerry at Eurocharged about it and he suggested I try in Dyno Mode, so I tried it and no problem at all, so believe its the ESP kicking in. He mentioned he's seen a handful of cars where the ESP is overly sensitive, and suggested I look into new sensors.


I've searched the forums I see there is a steering sensor, but wasn't sure what the sensor was that could be overly sensitive, I assume something that measures traction/wheel spin, or unexpected g-forces. I'd appreciate some pointers at to what I should be looking for.

I would question tire pressure, tire condition and tire diameter (side to side) before I would chase the ESP sensors. Even under light throttle that's a lot of torque for a 265 tire.

Have to agree with E55Madness. For example, I replaced my worn out Michelins on the rear with new Conti EC DW's (same tire size as OEM on all 4 corners). I kept the 50% wore Michelins up front. Thinking that the new rears would help in my 'overactive' ESP. No real change. One week later I added new EC DW's up front... Problem is gone. It's pretty safe to assume that the car's stability program is sensitive to tire pressures/conditions.

Thanks, I have new tires and good pressure, I was using very little throttle and you can see the ESP flash even though its turned off, no power cut in dyno mode.. I'll try and test it with Star and see if they are working within normal parameters..
