Charge your battery overnight. When I replaced just the voltage regulator the car still started with a nasty plastic burning smell I had to replace the alternator. if the car isn't turning over after one start attempt it's not the alternator.

Just an update. I charged the main battery last night for 2 hours.
Jump starting it wouldnt work.

Went out later last night and it started right up. The display now has a visit workshop with a battery symbol.

Started it this morning and it still has the battery symbol. I guess it is a good thing it held the charge overnight.

it wont last long if the voltage regulator or alternator is toast and it will kill the battery.

Yea replacing voltage regulator tonight.

Praying for it not to be the alternator, I only like to use OEM parts.

Next time you have it running you should check your charging voltage. takes two seconds literally if you have a meter.

You might have a current draw if charging voltage is okay.

Interesting, I'm not convinced that it would be the regulator. A failed regulator wouldn't stop your car from turning over, or prevent you from moving your key, shifting into neutral etc. a voltage regulator will prevent the battery from charging once the car is running but you were having issues way up the chain of that.

Keep the thread updated, I'd be interested to know how the car is in a weeks time.

Will do, the only thing i know the regulator did was clear the visit workshop code.

So it wasnt the regulator. The battery light kicked on last night. It looks like it shows up when I get into it or if I am driving a long time.

Hey guys, just wanted to give you an update.

Took to the dealership and they thought it was the BCM. It was replaced and that wasnt it.

It ended up being the alternator which was replaced 4 months ago.

Its was under warranty so everything is good now.

Charging voltage at idle is fine.

Apparently once it gets some rpms it isnt and throws a code.

Then back to idle to check and its fine again.

typically when a charging voltage check is performed all lights/accessories ect are cut on....rear defrosty- hazards-rmps- between 1500-3000 to make realistic driving conditions....for future reference now you know! at least MB dealer figured it out. The guided test is a great tool if you know someone who has DAS
