BLOWN TRANSMISSION
Driving my e55 2 days ago on the freeway doing about 70, I noticed the car was not accelerating any more. the rpm would rev up to 7k but the car was rolling as if in neural. pulled over. Turned the car off, turned it back on, put it in drive. car would rev to redline and not move. 5 minutes later the car drove again for about 1 min then did it again. Everyone is telling me the tranny is gone. STAR car up with a tranny code for the check engine light. Not sure how this could happen, car gave no sign of slippage before, I also dont get hoe it all failed at once. the car wont move an inch. its a the dealer and will open the tranny tomorrow. Anyone have any idea about this? car has 100k miles

Had the same symptoms last year.
I've started with replacing the conductor plate and it didnt help, ive rebuilt the whole gearbox- didnt helped.
Finally I've sent the car to another garage where he removed the torque converter and cut it open- it was purple, means it was over heated and needed to be changed.
Once i installed a new torque converter car it solved the problem.
Therefore before going to an expensive gearbox rebuild i would suggest you to start with draining the transmission oil and check for any metal chips in it.
If theres evidence for those check your conductor plate and torque converter, those 2 can be the reason for what your experiencing and much cheaper to repair.
The first idiot mechanic who worked on my car didnt diagnosed my transmission fail properly and made me spend 6000$ on a completely full rebuild instead of 1500$ worth torque converter (ive changed everything- clutch plates, valve body, torque converter and ALL the transmission electronic).
