engine identification

how can you determine what year and model car an v8 kompressor AMG engine came from ?,, found one at a scrap yard and was trying to determine what it came out of (and where is the serial number located) ? thanks

Serial number is on the rear bell housing. Real pain in the **** spot to see when in the car.

Maybe grab it, then take it to a dealer and they should be able to run it for you
