MBWorld Fanatic!
I put a Paramount modified valve in my SL55.
For me it is hard to make a before and after comparison because my car is a 2003 (which had the older valvebody/solenoids) and I had Bill upgrade a 2004 valve body (which uses the blue-top solinoids) and then I installed it along with a 2004 TCU. So my results are likely the same as one might see on a 2004, however, the before and after may be different.
I found that it took a little getting used to the increased harshness of the 1-2 , 2-1 shifts AND it is noisier (more noise made by fluid shooting about at higher pressure ? or perhaps the pump ...)
Bill (owner of Paramount) is a good guy to work with and really seems to know his stuff. Relative to your question about interchangeability, I would ask Bill. He will probably suggest that you just have your valve body reworked (he does a nice quick turn-around).
