Reasonably cheap audio upgrade
The HK system in my 2006 E55 sounds muddy as hell. It has the bluetooth dongle, but that only works for calls, not streaming. There is an AUX jack in the glovebox, and the CD changer doesn't work.
I was using an iPod on the AUX jack, but it wasn't great. After pricing multiple ideas at premium car stereo shops, I decided to see if better input at the AUX would make a difference. After reviewing articles about premium portable digital players, I bought an iBasso DX80. $360 on Amazon. Believe it or not, it made a big difference in the audio quality in the car. Even my wife noticed the difference.
This player also has an SPDIF output. That means I can plug it into the DAC on my home stereo system and it plays digital music files (including DSD) just as good as the MacMini I use as a music server.
