Need some help....

I am posting this in the E55 section since there is more activity...

I drive a 2003 S55 and just did my valve cover gaskets.....the next day i drove to work and thought everything is ok until i tried passing a car and under wot i get sputtering and backfire and no power....as long as i stay under 50% or so the car drives fine...over that i get no power and sputtering.....went into manual mode in low gear and drove with little pedal input but high rpm....no problem....then today i checked my fuel pressure....after ignition i get abot 70psi.....start the car and it goes a little higher......in park under wot the pressure drops below 40 and slowly builds back.

I dont think that the pressure should drop that much but i cannot find any reference anywhere. Any of you guys ever experienced anything like this ?

First thing I would do is check all the plugs on the coil packs.

The plugs are 1 month old.....i just tried new cables tonight with no difference.....why would the coils go bad just by me taking them out and putting them back in....i have done it a few times already without any problems....

a lot of times when people do the valve cover gaskets they knock the vacuum pipe loose from the back of the supercharger on the drivers side. follow the vacuum hose from the purge valve to back behind the engine and you will see it eventually turn into a metal pipe. follow the metal pipe and make sure its inserted all the way into the grommet on the back of the supercharger inlet. thats a start.

Update....
Put a new Fuel Pump and new filter in.... i can accelerate a little harder now but the problem is still there...the pressure does still fluctuate wildly...

The Old pump was original (205k at this point) the filter was a little more than a month....

So im thinking it might be the coils afterall

Anyone know a good source for coils ?

If your original pump had that many miles on it I can only imagine how bad/burnt the contacts are inside the fuel pump relay.

I would take off and inspect all the connections of the wires to the coils. Make sure they are clean not loose and you don't have any broken clips . That's what I was trying to say previously when I said plugs. I only say that because you just did valve cover gaskets

Its funny that you say that...EVERY SINGLE CLIP broke from the coil connections...all brittle after 13 years of heat....so i used ties and tied every one down....they are solid....and i tried new spark plug wires 2 days ago and they didnt do anything

What really bothers me is that my star is telling me there is no issue with the car.....the engine runs so bad on wot that ii would have really thought some sensor would pick it up and set a code.....but nothing

Incorrect. A relay is a contact that can burn over time and cause a resistance in the circuit. Same thing if say you had a loose connection in the circuit. It's worth a shot for 5-10 bucks.

I would try fuel pump relay like rockman8 has suggested. If your done atleast tell your Indy to check it first to keep labor time down.

I'd get the MB relay. I think the newer ones are made by hella and are only a couple of bucks from MB.

Another update....

put a new relay in...no change

If anyone with a Fuel Pressure Gauge could hook it up and floor the car in N or P and see if the Fuel pressure drops...

I still believe its a fuel delivery issue

Why would you floor the car in park? Plus your problem is not in park it's when driving so you will have to monitor your pressure when driving. Your pressure should be around 80 psi at idle and maybe 75 under boost..that I have seen as an average with these cars.40psi in park is way to low.
I have a return system so mine runs at 65 psi idle and 70 under boost but that's just my set up.
