2006 e55, how to add Bluetooth?
Hey guys, I have been reading about all the intricacies of these cars carphone systems and am extremely confused.
I have an 07 e350 as well; that car has the light up puck thing plugged into the cup holder area.
This car has no plug in there, but it does have the car phone speakers installed in the kick panels, so I assume it is "pre wired" to some degree?
Can I simply remove the arm rest and plug the puck and harness into some empty plug underneath? Or is it more elaborate than that? Any cut-and-dry feedback would be appreciated; all these 10 year old threads and differences between model years has my head spinning.

Another consideration - are any of those Chinese touch screen stereos on eBay worth a ****? They all seem to have Bluetooth but I suspect they do not work correctly with factory controls and MB nav DVD?

checking prices on this stuff
1) Kenwood DNN991HD Headunit $799
2) NAV-TV Head Unit Replacement Interface Opti-1 $559
3) CARAV Dash Kit $43
4) Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface $47
so we're talking $1,448 just in parts...
Bluetooth integration in our car is ~$800 at the dealer for the puck integration... if you don't have one
I guess if you compare to a whole new NTG MB headunit this is a frugal buy

So, even though this car has the phone buttons on the wheel and head unit, and the speakers in the kick panel, I have to add a ton of parts to get it to not say "phone not installed" correct? I have a Bluetooth antenna plugged into the aux which basically works, but wanted to be able to do the phone through the cluster. If it's a total nightmare I'll just skip it haha. Can anyone tell me if I can just swap the parts over from my 07, and if so, which parts exactly? This 06 also has the SOS telephone button if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help

I have an '06 E55 which I bought used. The "puck" was already installed in the armrest, and I was able to integrate my smartphone easily (after finding the password online somewhere). It only works for calls, not streaming.
Funny enough, the prior owner's voice commands and contacts were still in the system. If I say "Call Mom", or "Call Office", it will call his mother or his office on my phone. Prior owner worked at the MB dealer in Orange Park, FL, per the contact info. Anyone know who owned my car?

That's what it looks like. The old phone cradle is gone. You can find this puck on ebay:

I'm new to theses cars. I have an 05 E55 and It has the phone in the console. Been reading and trying to understand what is needed to use my iPhone with this car.
So does the puck do the wireless to the car?
And then your phone uses the puck to Bluetooth to the car?
Does the puck attach in some way to the cradle that held the old flip phone?
Or does the puck have to be programmed/connected to the cars system?
Pics help I'm visual learner. Haha.

The puck has to be setup for your phone. You will have to search the setup procedure. I just did this in my 07 E63 and it was very simple. I bought this puck from ebay and it came with simple instructions but I tossed them when I was done.
It is important to note all this does is allow you to answer and make calls through the stereo. It will not allow you to play music. I bought mine assuming I could use my Pandora and was sadly mistaken. For now I added a male/male 3.5mm jack and use the aux plug in the glove box. I had a GROM on my BMW E38 and loved it so I may add that eventually. But it's $400...

From what I have read, yes, you can take that cradle out and have the plug necessary to add the puck. I only have the UHI plug and my puck should be here later this week, I've been looking into options pretty hard lately.

the bluetooth puck will give you OEM bluetooth calling which works pretty darn well. for integration of bluetooth for audio streaming as OEM as possible you'll need to install a factory iPod integration kit then purchase a Viseeo Tune2Air.
save the money and purchase a USB/CigLighter powered bluetooth dongle and plug it into your Aux line in. 20 dollars, works great, and some of them have NFC connectivity.

The passcode is 62872 ("mbusa"). When you scan for devices on your phone, you might have to push the button on the puck to get it to search. (Lights flashing.) I can't remember that part. Maybe there is a Scan function in your COMAND menu.

if i recall correctly
you press and hold the mercedes badge on the puck for 3 seconds...it will begin flashing then you can pair.
there's been times where i've had issues and had to remove and reinsert the puck to get this to work.
