CEL -Diagnostic results (Questions)
Hi everyone!
My CEL light came on two days ago, today I made an appointment and the dealership looked at the car, ran through some tests and I just got the call from the SA. SA states that there's three things that needs to be addressed at this time.
1. fuel pump (faulty)
2. fuel level sender (leak...)
3. purge valve
SA is telling me that this is not related to the common fuel leak problem and can not be covered by the MB warranty... and total cost for the fix will be $2800.00
Parts: $1804
Labor: $712
What do you guys think...? Any advice?

This place is a joke.
If you're in the U.S. a leaking fuel level sender is absolutely covered under the extended warranty. Read about the warranty extension and educate yourself.

yea... i have been reading on the whole fuel thank issue... and the pinned thread.
Just spoke to my SA, and he is stating that he is doing all he can... but because my car went to the shop due to CEL, and not the fuel smell or symptoms, its difficult to cover it under warranty... he is still trying to figure out and talk to the warranty person.
Also I understand the purge valve... is not connected and relating issue... I am willing to eat that cost... I just mentioned that, because SA told me that it was also something that needs to be addressed.

Take your car back, drive to same dealer say you smell gas. How can the way something is found affect your warranty? I think they are being less than honest with you.

I agree with declining the repairs and taking your car back. Wait a week or so and return back and complain of a fuel smell. Once that is documented on the repair order that the customer complained about it then it's covered. The dealer is being honest because MB has and will deny any claim submitted where there was no fuel smell or leak complaint by the customer. This is fact.

Check engine light is most likely coming on because the fuel pressure sensor has failed in the fuel filter unit (driver's side of the tank), and could even be pooling fuel. This is 100% under warranty, and calls for replacement of the entire gas tank, the fuel pumps, and fuel filter (sender) unit. If you need the letter from Mercedes to the NHTSA showing the extended warranty, send me a PM. I also have the SA flow chart from Mercedes showing when they are required to replace what parts for this warranty.
The purge control valve will generally throw a CEL due to the fuel cap. Buy a new fuel cap, or reset the error. 90% of the time this error resolves when the tank is sufficiently vacuum tested by the ECU, but this can't occur if there is a leak from the fuel sender unit (which there appears to be).
None of this is a big deal. The fix here is to have the warranty repair done on the tank and all components.
Any chance these thieving ****** gave you the actual error codes associated with the work?
As far as the warranty aspect of this ... if they used the word "Leak" associated with the fuel filter sender unit, then the entire tank gets replaced under warranty.

Excellent evaluation and description Mr.Equitiesguy!
The car is at the dealership, and being worked on since the 17th. I am in no rush to get the car back as long as they complete the work done right.
Once I get the car back, I will post / pm you what all they replaced.
I provided them with the letter I found online from NHTSA and other documentation to support all my findings and facts.
