Hotsauce55's random tinker with the car thread
This thread is going to follow my ongoing dealings with the beast...
Had the E55 for a year now. Researched just about every car out there and compared performance, reliability, price and comfort. Win for the E55.
Started out with noisy winter tires when I purchased the car. I have experienced that before after they get a bit older and figured on replacement. Turns out tires were fine and it was the differential on the way out. After research and cost analysis in found a replacement from a low mileage CLS55 for $350 or so. Had eurocharge Canada don't he swap and all good. Upon purchase I also did ball joints, rear brake lines and a complete brake flush.
Ran the car this way for awhile. I have put about 17,000 miles on the car in the last 11 months. It's been practically problem free but there are a few issues that need to be dealt with. More to come on recent trunk lock failure and pulley/belt pics. A few pics of the beast too

Crappy pic in the driveway right now. Salt all over the roads still...
W215 wheels for the winter. 18x8.5 et44 sunken in for sure and I need to source out longer lugs. Don't look half bad
Wife was brushing snow off car and somehow did this a few weeks back. Must have been out way out anyways.

I started another thread with trunk opening problems. In my case it wasn't the typical broken wire situation. Mine actually looked OK. Turns out my lock has given up. I am in the midst of looking for a new one

Super nice car you have there. Mine does not have the inserts. Interior looks about the same colour & I don't have the rolltop console. Where did you get the clear front markers?

It's time to get new summer tires. Was thinking of using the OEM AMG 18's with new rubber however, I now recall a valve stem leaking at the TPMS not working. Kinda thinking of not investing in the TPMS...

Got a used lock off a great selling member here and put it in today. Works like a charm. I am now cleaning up the trunk area since it's disassembled.
Looking at the edges of the trunk, there seems to be some double sided tape which I imagine is either to seal out moisture or prevent rattles or both. Not sure if it's worth replacing? Only a bit of it remained on the trunk. The outer shell piece has the rest.
Brings me to the next issue. When I bought the car I could get one of the license plate screws to catch. I can see why now, the base is actually cracked. I added some epoxy but am looking for other ways to fix this or rig up something else?

Replaced the coolant level sensor to hopefully eliminate the cluster message but didn't work so onto replacing the washer fluid level sensor. In the midst of replacing the coolant level sensor, the expansion tab was very brittle and broke (see picture)
Where can I get these & are they universally sized throughout the car?
