E63 2009
My car was ready today. The master mechanic performed the headbolt replacement ,changed the plugs and a list of gaskets. I had them replace the camshaft position sensor, replaced the camshaft sensors (4). They said the oil was milky especially in the cylinder head area.the replaced the oil 2x. Motor runs very smooth now, I have not accelerated hard yet, road was wet on the drive home and somewhat dirtied the new wash and wax.
I'm happy the headbolt issue is now resolved. I'm always worried about long trips because of possibly grenading the motor .My only worry now is the rear bags which I believe are original. The fronts were replaced at 50000 miles.
Again I thank everyone for their recommendations.

The original quote was $6,000.00 they discounted it to $5,200.00 , cam shafts were ok
It stayed in the shop for 10 days

UGH! That bill and that head bolt...literally shaking my head right now after seeing that picture! Feel kinda like trading in the car at this point and starting over with something else...glad it worked out for you Mbsti Hopefully she'll stay strong for a long time!

E63 2009
Earlier I thought of trading it in without getting the repair but I was afraid the motor may explode during their test drive. I did not want to be responsible for any injury and damages because I knew about the problem before hand. I guess I believe in Karma.

My classmate has a 2009 C63 and I told him about the headbolt issue. He said he has an extended warranty. I might just buy his car when he plans to replace his c 63 and get the headbolts replaced later. I might even get a bigger discount since it is a second repair, He only has 30,000 miles on it.

It's good that you avoided worse damage. The bolt looks like it was manufactured in two pieces, like the head was fused to the shaft and failed at the interface. Are bolts typically manufactured in two pieces?

They resolved this issue on the M156 at some point in 2009 so the C63 might be fine. You can search for the exact crossover date and check the month of manufacture for the W204.

I believe the resolution, in the form of revised head bolts and lifters, etc. didn't happen until 2011. I think there is a guy on here (or maybe the W204 section) that will look up your VIN to see if you are in the unaffected range. He typically won't do this unless you have a 2011 MY. I believe this to be the case.

Also, if you have an extended warranty like your buddy with the C63, especially if its the MB ELW, find a good dealer with a good advisor (and mechanic). Then, tell them you are smelling coolant strongly after driving the car. Let them know you are aware of the associated TSB (I forgot the TSB number; search the head bolt issue here and you will find it in one of the threads). I did. I have the updated head bolts, lifters, etc. all done courtesy of my MB ELW. No charge. I sleep well.

No prob at all. I did an s-ton of research as well. This issue almost pushed me to a W212 post-2011 MY just to avoid the problem, but I just love the W211 design. So, I looked for over a year and found the one I really wanted and it had probably one of the only ELW's around for a 2009. I have worn that puppy out, too. I also have an incredible AMG tech and advisor. I plain lucked out. Now if I could only stuff a TT 5.5 in my 2009.........
