Initial Impressions
This is my 3rd E55, an early 1999 and a mid year 2001 came first. Picked up my new '04 this past Thursday. Its a terrific vehicle.
Impressions:
The car wants to go fast, keeping it in check during the break in phase is going to be tough. Even at "normal" traffic speeds the sense of power and torque are wonderful.
So far no problems with the brakes. They were my biggest concern given all the press reviews and much of the comments on the board, but I've had little trouble modulating the stops and my wife has had no problems either. Perhaps the current version has different software and/or settings, at any rate I'm pleased with them so far.
I'm 6'3" and there is loads of leg room for the driver. With the seat all the way down headroom is OK. Controls come pretty easily to hand, although I continue to search for the window controls on the center console where they have been for so long.
I thought I saw a note on the board about someone buying a smaller rim and tire for an emergency spare. The "underfloor" storage area in my trunk will not take any tire bigger than lawn mower so perhaps I misread.
Was surprised to find no oil or transmission dipstick (this has probably been beat to death on the board already). My electronic oil level indicator in the 2001 never did work well, almost always showed way over-filled (despite a couple of sensor replacements) but the old reliable dip stick removed the worries. We will see how the new one works.
Next projects:
1. Get the windows tinted
2. Permanent wiring (and perhaps stealth install) for the V1.
Cheers

Congrats! Enjoy the new ride!
When it comes to hardwiring your V1, don't try to hook it to power from the overhead console...been there... done that...don't work! Best to get power from below the dashboard.

Thanks for the guidance on the wiring for the V1. My last two were wired under the dash, with the detector mounted just above and centered in the middle of the dash. I prefer it lower rather than mounted high near the rear view mirror like I've seen on others.
As for the configuration of my '04 it's pretty loaded:
Command Center
Handsfree with Phone
Parktronic
side window rollers
lighting package
cd changer
rear window shade
tire pressure monitor
pano roof
keyless go
Color:
External - Obsidian Black Metallic
Interior - Charcoal
The color matches the color of my 348, what the italians (or at least Ferrari) call Nero Metallico
